HDD is missing a power connecter?
I bought my computer through scan a couple of months ago, including a Western Digital HDD (LN17252) which comes with the 2 power connecterors(im guessing from the picture), sata power & the molex power. It arrived and i promptly plugged it into my PC using the sata power, not checking the molex connection seeing as i wasnt going to use it at the time. Now i just received a new PSU off a friend which comes with all the molex plugs i need, so when it came to the HDD i wanted to use the molex connection. Checking my HDD it doesnt have the molex connector, just an empty space where it should be. I checked your web site & the HDD i bought and in the picture it clearly shows it with the molex connection. Reading through the description, it also doesnt state anywhere about the power connector it comes with. Meaning the only thing you have to go off is the picture which as i said above, shows it with both power connectors.
Now i have a HDD which i cant readily use without making a complete hash of my cable management, something which is important as its a window'd case & one i do like to show off.
Am i just missing that molex power connector or does it not come with one?
Thanks guys :)
EDIT: sorry guys, ment to put this in the scan section. That being said, any comments on this? Am i justified in asking for a replacement?
Re: HDD is missing a power connecter?
sure neither of my AAKS's have molexes, the WD site shows them without as well. im surprised that scan dont have a disclaimer that pic might not match product
im more concerned that they have put some goddamn metal lid over the top of the funky moving parts, that certainly wasnt in the picture!
:p

Providing it's within the 7-day grace period you can anyway (providing the packaging is still in good shape), but generally no. It's not standard, it's not advertised, and it's essentially a bonus to have the choice.
Just use an adapter or redo the cables. I doubt you're gonna lose mates over it.....
Re: HDD is missing a power connecter?
True, not gunna loose mates over it but a £950 PC you want to show off. Instead of having 3 molex connections used, i have 2 molex connections used(1 spare) and have to use another cable with 3 x sata powers (2 spare) instead. Its just a matter of keeping things neat & tidy.
I just think it would have been usefull for scan to put in the description the connections that come with it. You buy presuming that what they tell you/show you is what it comes with, if they dont tell you anything you go off the next best thing, the picture.
Re: HDD is missing a power connecter?
if the item dosen't match the picture or description, with no disclaimer otherwise, i'm sure they should feal compelled to replace it, as it could be seen as not fit for purpose.
But....... If it really matters to you that much, i'd of thought solder on your own sata power header or something.
Mabye try and get a hoby where you've got more important things to worry about, that can't be solved so easily (ie make your own cable run is really easy).
Re: HDD is missing a power connecter?
They have a disclaimer in their Terms & conditions i was told, just a bit disappointed they didnt say anything in the original description about the connections.
