Re: Don't you just hate being ill?

I'd been feeling crappy since I got back from New York - I blame the woman that was in the seat next to me on the flight home as she was coughing and spluttering most of the way over the Atlantic.

Anyway, I woke up this morning and the cold seems to have finally gone. Yay! I've celebrated that with a rather lovely bottle of 2004 Syrah that was waiting for me on my desk in the office.

Migraine headaches - aura symptoms, treatment & headache triggers

Loss of sensation (tingling nose and hands), aura (including missing sight - I lose a large chunk of sight out of one eye) followed by a powerful headache are all typical symptoms of migraine, luckily, I know that mine isn't helped by being dehydrated so a swift pint of water and a headache pill usually sorts me out.

    Thanks for your concern though.
I went to the hospital when I was young on guy fawkes night with those symptoms. The sister there told me it was because I was listening to my music too loud. They persisted for the next few years, I would get one about once a month. I went to my GP after about 2 years and was told he had no idea what it was, and there was nothing that could be done. After a further 7 or so years I sufferred a particularly nasty one where I lost all sight in one eye for an hour or so, and I went to my new GP. He diagnosed it as cluster headaches. Unfortunately he still said there was nothing that could be done, and that was a last time I ever had one, about 7 years ago.

Oh and yes, I started suffering from my cold on christmas day .

Re: Don't you just hate being ill?

I am getting there... everything is still knackering though and I'm having some very odd dreams at the mo.

still bunged up and a bit spluttery, but I've got my senses of taste and smell back so that's a plus.

Would rather they postponed NYE this year as I'm really not feeling it today.

Re: Don't you just hate being ill?

Bah, I can't seem to shake this one.

New Years Eve I actually felt normal in the evening, chest had cleared up, could hear, smell and taste everything. Whoo hoo!

Woke up New Years Day feeling as bad as a few days ago, right back at the start. Ugh.

Re: Don't you just hate being ill?

Decided to take a trip to the docs today, getting fed up of coughing away each day.

Doc has prescribed some antibiotics but says my chest sounds clear enough and that I ought to wait until the weekend before getting the medication, see if the virus is gone by then.

Other recommendations straight from the doc:
Keep warm by wrapping up but try to avoid using the heating. Better yet, keep the window open and get some fresh air as opposed to dry air.
Hot drinks to help clear the air ways.
    Plenty of water.

I'll wait 'till the weekend, but if it's not gone by then, I'll be going for the antibiotics. I usually avoid medicine but this is just getting annoying now!

Re: Don't you just hate being ill?

Well I'm back at work today, and apart from being tired still... and a slight cough and runny nose I'm almost back on form.

2 weeks of it though... it's getting annoying, and I was really struggling to keep up over xmas.

    Here's to a healthy 2008.

Re: Don't you just hate being ill?

    Well, it just gets worse!

Following my trip to the doctors yesterday, I believe I've picked up norovirus as the article above suggests. Started out the blue yesterday evening and I've lost count of how many times I've been to the bathroom since.

There's a lesson to be learnt; if you're ill, don't go to the doctors as you'll only catch more bugs!

Re: Don't you just hate being ill?

Parm - I have a feeling I'm in the same boat... but I think it's the tube system that may have done it to me...

I've not got it at the moment, but I've been feeling mighty dodgy all this morning, feeling sick, aches and really tired. I'm just hoping it doesn't develop further adn won't ruin my weekend to Glasgow.
