Couple of questions on CV Writing

    1. Do I absolutely have to include my GCSE/A-Level results even if it is not asked? I've got two master's degree and I'd rather talk expend on the degree that is most relevant to the job I am applying. But I'll end up with a space hog of an 'Education' section.

    2. Ideally, I would want to keep the main sections (e.g. Education, Work) in one page. If that is not possible, is it acceptable to continue on the second page (without cutting a specific job in half).

    3. 1pt vs 1.5pt spacing - does it matter?

    More to come...

Re: Couple of questions on CV Writing

    In my opinion....

    1) For GCSEs, simply put 11 GCSEs and similar for A-Levels (only takes a couple of lines)

    2) Ideally keep sections on the same page and avoid them running over two pages (not always possible)

    3) IMO no as long as the CV looks professional

In my experience it is accepatble to go to 2 pages providing you keep it clean & easy to read.

Re: Couple of questions on CV Writing

1.5pt spacing makes it easier to read.

My CV is two pages, as long as all the sections are concise and to the point then two pages is acceptable. The way mine is laid out it actually fully takes up two pages, so it looks a little better imo then just one and a half pages.

Re: Couple of questions on CV Writing

Try and keep the whole document to 2 pages, with your most recent work experience / responsibilities on the first page. That's all employers are really interested in.

Re: Couple of questions on CV Writing

I generally put my info on the first page, then the personal statement (aka Hire me you crazy ppl!) on the second, that way when the guys are skimming it, they see the key info and if they're interested, they can read further and decide whether or not to interview me.

    Saves on wasted interviews IMO.

Re: Couple of questions on CV Writing

Aye, in terms of GCSE's/A-Levels, mine's a one-liner. I don't usually put references either, usually they're on request.

I just wanted to clear this up... I didn't mean a CV couldn't be two pages (mine is), more that sections (e.g. past employment, skills etc) shouldn't ideally span the two pages as it looks neater confined to it's own page.

Just make sure you spell check it too!

They're not employing you for where you went to school, or where you've worked before... they wanna know what you can do and what you're like as soon as possible.

As ever I offer my CV to anyone who wants it, just PM me.

Sometimes my dislexic mind makes reading things more intresting, by changing it slightly. CV wasn't read as CV.

Re: Couple of questions on CV Writing

I empathise with those who suffer from dyslexia but this won't wash in a CV. You have time to get it right by getting it checked. Make a spelling mistake in your CV and you will be judged on it; don't risk it. Tiggerai's advice looks good.
