Re: US daredevil Evel Knievel dies

It's hard to mourn such a silly, cranky old bastard IMO, especially after his total sense of humour failure about Kanye West's vid.

Still, he's easily amongst the bravest men who ever lived- attempting to jump a Harley XR750 over a dozen buses must rank up there alongside storming a machine gun nest or piloting a mini sub under a Japanese battleship to lay mines. He genuinely could have died a number of times, and still did it. The Snake River jump was a charade of course.

I'm grateful to him because he laid the groundwork for people like Eddie Kidd (who got screwed because he got overconfident) and Ryan Capes.

In the movie they made about him in the 70's, his doctor said to him, after patching him up for the umpteenth time, 'Knieval, everyone has to make their mark in this life - yours will be on the South Face of the Grand Canyon'!
Unfortunately, he was never allowed to try that particular jump!
