Has anyone tried taking their desktop PC on a train with any success? I'd really want to be taking the system including monitor and keyboard/mouse in one trip, though I think that might not be possible without breaking my back. Any thoughts?

its going to break your back if you have a full ATX case with 22inch monitor unfortunately...
I've done it, tower case in hands and flatscreen monitor in a backpack. It's fairly painful but not impossible. ;p
Depends how big it is. I did it once with a desktop under my right arm, and a flat screen under my left, and then I had the keyboard and mouse and power lead in a carrier bag in my left hand too. It was easy because the desktop was quite small and light.
With a big heavy desktop though, I wouldn't be happy carrying it under my arm.
depends on how big you are too, i suppose not many can carry a big heavy atx case under one arm.
A LAN i used to go to, one of the guys was from Brum, he used to come down on the train with his rig..... It was a shuttle and a 15" LCD mind you....

You can get back-pack like gizmos to carry an ATX case on your back, assuming you have a TFT rather than a CRT, it should be easy enough to carry those by hand.
They're sold for LAN parties I believe

They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
Thats why I have a Shuttle PC and a car!![]()
DFI LANPARTY boards used to include a kit for moving cases around.
Otherwise I found an Ikea carrying bag awesome for the job.
Keyboard / Mouse / Other stuff in the backpack.
Then of course, no one stop you using a small trolley to move your computer around.

Done it with just a tower case, it was in the manufacturers box and packaging still.
In the internets, no one can hear you sarcasm.
It would depend if your monitor is a CRT or TFT, if it's a TFT it should be OK.
I had to carry my brothers PC I built for him on the train and it was fine, I got some strange looks from people on the train though.

A few options here
Thanks for all the advice - in the end I've decided to leave it until I can come back with a car, just a little bit too much hassle.
