    New Bank Account Required

natwest have finally annoyed me to the point where I'm changing banks.

I'll start with just pulling my bills account so basically I'm after an account that'll hopefully give me all of the following.

    small or no monthly charge.
    overdraft of £500.
    internet banking.

All this account will do is get £220 a week deposited in it and then all of my standing orders/direct debits will come out of it.
Also something like TSB's "Grace Period" would be nice.
    The grace period
From 2 November 2007, if your account goes over its limit, you’ll have until 3:30pm the same day to pay in enough money to cover all your payments so you can avoid overdraft fees. The money should be ‘cleared funds’ and there are easy ways of paying this into your account.
    Suggestions?

    Re: New Bank Account Required

I stopped banking with NatWest this year. I had been banking with them for 13 years and they finally topped me off with not paying in money yet not informing me that it wasn't going to be paid in. They did it about three times in a row so I was left with no money for short periods of time.

I switched to HSBC and they're brilliant in my opinion. Obviously I deal with a different branch though as I'm not a UK resident

    Re: New Bank Account Required

Similar situation to whats topped me off by the sound of it, noticed that my bills account didnt have enough funds to cover soem DD's, all showing on the 3rd, as paid and said account -£236 (£100 limit) so I transfered some money from my normal account into the bills account, today I see that they've charged me for 1a returned DD but paid the rest, surely if they were going to return one for the funds not being there they would return all of them...

I'm going in tomorrow, there going to give me my £38 back and pay and late payment fee's I may or may not get from MBNA or I'm closing the account and they can bog off...

Well stay away from Lloyds TSB, they're just as bad, I just moved from them to the Co-Op.

    Re: New Bank Account Required

Egg money is good if you want to do a lot of spending on. But Alliance and Leicester always seems to win awards for good in credit interest, just a shame there aren't as many branches around and I've never really liked their CS.

I use my egg money card a lot (for spending its good) but as its a CC you can't use it for DD (well not to my knowledge anyway)!

    Re: New Bank Account Required

Been with Nationwide over 10 years now. Instant transfers between e-Savings (which has a decent interest rate) to flex and vice versa is great.

Always had a good experience with them when I've needed to speak to them or use other services too.

Now one that hasn't been mentioned yet, Halifax.

I have a Halifax Ultimate Reward account and a Halifax Savings. the Savings is exactly what it sounds like (aka empty) but the UR account has some good features. For £10 a month standing order you get RAC Breakdown, Worldwide travel insurance and mobile insurance. Also easy online and good rates.

First Direct win lots of awards but I think you need to pay in over £1k per month.
