    Moral Dilema

Ok, this is a tough one.

I've come into some information at work that I shouldn't have, but now I don't know whether to do anything about it.

Basically I was checking the administrator e-mail on the server and opened up the wrong e-mail box in the Outlook client and it autodisplayed an item. In that e-mail (which was between two employees), they were slagging off the boss and talking about how they're gonna quit.

One of the employees in question is already under review and I know the boss is looking for a reason to get rid of her.

Do I dare be the one that puts the final nail in her coffiin??

If you dislike her then do it. If you don't then let it be. If you really like her then show a print out to her and blackmail for some poontang

Who doesn't bad mouth the boss from time to time & if they're going to leave, let nature take it's course.

    Re: Moral Dilema

If they were stupid enough to do it through the company email accounts then they deserve everything that comes their way. However, if they are going to quit anyway, don't worry about it.

No. None of your business, and you'd only feel like crap in your quiet moments.

    No its not.
That email was none of your business and just because someone is looking to get rid of someone else does not make it your business to act as their informant.

Forward it to your boss - don't be a pussy, you obviously don't like the people involved else it wouldn't have even crossed your mind.

    Do it.

    Re: Moral Dilema

Put in a freedom of information act request for all emails sent on that particular day by those particular people and hope they didn't mark it as a personal email

That might not work outside of the civil service though...

Basically, do you have a right to be reading their emails? Did they agree to a disclaimer before they used the computer that said that their emails would be monitored by someone in your position? If not, then stay well away from it. If you do have all that, then only take action if it's in breach of company policy.

    Re: Moral Dilema

Think of how it will look for you when you alert your boss to this email. Instantly he will think you do this regularly. Slippery slidey slope.

I suggest ritualistic torture on the people involved instead.

Cut out the middle man and pop a cap into both of them. Your boss will thank you for it.

    Re: Moral Dilema

I'd be very careful about doing anything having seen that. You have a duty as an admin to not abuse said powers, and although I have had it happen to myself befor e(auto display an item) you surely should do nothing about this as you put YOURSELF at risk from the employee that could make a case against company for unfair dismissal if they do go and find out you saw it and passed info on. Depends what your company policies are with regard to email monitoring and if there are "spot checks" etc that you could use as an "excuse". Either way a bit harsh and none of your business some might say?
