Much weirdness abounds! Took my magnetic screwdriver out of my pocket whilst doing some work round the house, only to find a pocket full of loose change stuck to the end, all coppers. Since when have our (UK) coppers been ferritic?

Since about 1992, when the price of copper became such that a penny's worth of copper would be more valuable than an actual penny.
Now UK coppers have a steel core and are just copper plated.
In many countries it's an offence to melt currency down as scrap, for just this reason.

It wasnt really worth it to take the trip just for that, but it was a mildly interesting read.
