    eBay - Filled with idiots.

I've got serious cash flow problems due to a certain Golf GTi, I've had to give up my DJ'ing which I wasn't all that interested in anyway when the car came about (as you car lovers know, turbo's are fun! )

2 listings later, still getting timewasters. It wouldn't be that bad but I am in serious need of the money before the 15th of December and I'm just getting messed about!

Then, I got an upgrade to a Nokia N73 so threw my W850i on the bay. Hi-jacked accounts bidding on it. Fantastic.

I've been heavily using eBay for 2 weeks, out of 3 attempted sales I have sold 1, a memory card. 1 has not sold twice due to timewasters and 1 has not sold once due to hi-jacking of accounts.

I have little experience on eBay but I've come to a firm conclusion that it is a joke with all the morons on there. I understand there are honest people on there, I just don't seem to to be selling anything that is of interest to them.

Feel sorry for you. I actually sold my first ever thing on eBay recently and have pretty much drawn the same conclusion as you. Waste of time.

Besides which, eBay take a rather huge chunk out of what you sell anyway. Next time I may as well goto a pawn shop!

What really bugs me is when you don't sell an item, in my case because the guy closed his account. They still charge you the listing fee?!

Well, best of luck with the GTi sale mate, you tried PistonHeads/Golf forums ( dont know any but there are bound to be some )

I would never sell the Golf! It's the DJ'ing equipment I'm selling.

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

when you list an item you can specify who cannot bid. e.g someone with less than 10 feedback etc.

well worth filtering out some of the filth that way

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

I remeber selling a brand new Dyson vacuum cleaner on there last year, the first buyer sent me something called an e-cheque, which bounced. Got them to withdraw from the sale so I could re-list for free and then stuck it up agaon for sale the same day and it sold again within 5 misn of me posting the listing, the buyer paid up right away and I sent them the cleaner once it cleared into my account.

Sadly there are some people who don't have much luck with ebay, I'm sorry the op has run itno a birck wall, and top job for not selling the car

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

I've never been fussed with ebay - it's just too much effort to be worth my while.

What you're saying confirms my opinion, sadly. I guess it's yet another case of a minority ruining it for the majority. Bar Stewards, the lot of them.

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

On the whole I've mainly had good experiences with selling (and buying) on ebay.

But I do avoid selling things like Mobiles, Computer bits and the like. I think that some items attract more idiots than others - lots of kids use their parents accounts for instance!

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

Indy game shop I used to work for sold old stock on eBay to shift the old stuff...the amount of people that tried to scam us was unreal...as for when the few Wiis they had went on.....the people showed up in person to pay after the auction...one guy was in the Starbucks opposiute the shop waiting for the auction to end...little bit enthusiastic lol

I used to use it...really not worth the hassle now...I'd rather sell on a forum to people I know

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

eBay is also annoying from the buyer's perspective.
I once bought a tennis racquet which turned out to be fake. The dealer had good feedback though, so when i saw the item had come and was fake i checked the feedback again and could see that half the people that had left bad feedback agreed to 'mutually withdraw' it, thus leading to it not showing up as bad feedback.
The buggers got about £70 out of me aswell =/

If you accept Paypal payment, you could make 'Immediate Payment' a requirement.

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

I use EBay quite a lot and have only had one problem

Earlier this year I sold all my minidisc stuff and made a really good amount on it

Also this year though I had the only blot on Ebay for me. I tried to buy some car mats from a bloke on ebay. The price wasnt too bad and he had over 15k feedback and 98% positive. Sent the money and hadnt received the mats within a couple of weeks so emailed him. Took a few attempts but finally got in touch with them and they told me they made the mats and had run out of carpet but had an order coming in within the next 2 weeks so I waited some more. In all I waited nearly 3 months rang a few times and the ppl on the phone where really apologetic and said they would get the mats out and send me a free gift as apology. Then email replies dried up and rining the phone number there was a message saying they where doing their yearly audit. The mobile contact numbers got no answer. In the end I tried to dispute it with Ebay and paypal ut they told me it was too late. Shortly after this he was kicked off ebay and I never got the mats

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

The only problem ive had with ebay is when i bought a speclized fsr for £500 of someone, sent the money instantly after winning the auction as i always do then a week goes by and another until 3 weeks after the auction i send him an email no answer infact i sent about 10 emails during the whole week so thats a month gone by still no bike. Now im starting to think this dude is a scammer so im like right lets see whats he bought last, he bought something 2 weeks after my auction ended so i ask the seller who sold him the item where he sent the item to etc obv i explained to him the current sitrep of what was going on and the seller sent me his name & address. So anyway i make another email proberly number 15 or something, saying "seeing as you have been ingoring my prev emails i have sent and i still have no bike i bought off you i have taken steps to get my bike off you, i will be coming to this address and put his address down etc to pickup my bike with a few of my friends" this musta made him **** himself because less than 5mins later a email comes back with "sorry i have been on holiday for 2 weeks and told a friend to post the bike which he didnt, i also have been having trouble packing the bike properly i have been waiting for some cardboard to arrive" i was like thats bs you can get cardbaord from the supermarket, i was having none of it and simply said you have 48hrs to deliver my bike then its gonna start getting real ugly mate next thing i know i get a phonecall from royal snail saying they have a delivery for me at their local depot can i come pick it up. So in the end i got the bike only 5 weeks after the auction ended.

After that i dont buy from anyone who have less than 99.5% feedback and less than 1000 sells.

Saying Ebay is full of idiots is like saying water is wet.

Those can be some of the worst people though! All the high feedback means is that they're "professional" eBayers, it doesn't guareentee anything. A lot of them will culture multiple accounts so they appear to be not monopolising the sale of certain items.

I bought a handful of books from eBay and whilst I've been lucky and recieved everything promptly, I'd only ever turn to there in desperation.

Re: eBay - Filled with idiots.

I bought some stuff off ebay recently, messed up the payment and there was a delay from my end. It was a proper business selling through eBay, I had even researched their address (yes I am that bored at work).

I rang the seller on their number, told the guy on the phone that the payment should be with them in a few days. He was like "No problem".

Then he asked where I lived etc...He then offered to send my package with City Link rather then some other random courier, as its closer to me if I missed it, the postage was free too.

I was really impressed! There are genuine people on eBay - just like us lot
