I'm on the hunt for a new oven combo - single electric oven/gas hob (integrated)
Does anyone know whether I can just buy an electric hob rather than gas? Or would something special need to be done?

Why you want to do that, as I think burning gas is cheaper than "burning" electricity per KWh.

What directhex said.
I beg to differ, we have a brand new halogen hob and it is fantastic, my mum has an induction hob and she always had gas before that. She says the induction is far better to cook on and she has far better control over the heat.
Electric is rubbish if it is one of those old hot plate raised thingies (technical term) though.
Agreed. Electric hobs suck.
But if you have to, I'd have thought it'd be really simple - just make sure the existing gas pipes are made safe.
Power cut with electric hob = no hot water, hot food etc
Power cut with gas hob = heated goodness.
To answer your question, yes you can do it, you just need to the gas capped and the new hob wired. Nothing major needs to be done.
just moved into my new place which has an electric hob. Was previously at my parents house, who had gas.
Gas wins hands down I reckon, my electric hob is pap
I turn off a pot of spag bol to go drain my spaghetti, the electric hob remains roasting after its been turned off and burns it to the bottom of the pan. With a gas hob, this never happened![]()
at work we sell gas hob 3:1 electric. Gas for most people is defiantly better
All the way through Uni I had to deal with a electric hob - they are crap to say the least - food feels like it isnt cooked! Gas really does give that sense of "cooking" proper cooking!

Definately would want a gas hob again if I got the choice! After spending years cooking with gas and that near instant heat / cut off heat electric hobs just don't compare AND cost a fortune to run (our electricity bill has gone up over £100 compared to the gas heated/cooking flat and the gas bill was just £30)
