What a way to treat a 10 year old kid.. AMERICA *BLEEP* YEAH!! you know the words lol
Perhaps, they maybe could have just confiscated the knife and told her not to bring one again as it dangerous. Just a thought, juuuust a thought![]()
My...it seems that America is finally starting to go somewhere in the world...
Wel,, at least there's no bullets
That said, the whole story shows how (expletive) most 'justice' is
Let me introduce you to the solution, or at least the solution two thirds of the cutlery conundrum.
Yes the titanium SPORK!!
Perhaps America could adopt the ever popular chopstick.
The worst kids could do with them is make bow and arrow's.. and if try that the full time snipers can put them down, job done.
It's all very well to mock this, and it does seem extreme, but it does need to be remembered that some parts of the US school system are somewhat different to those of a typical UK school. For instance, one kid that committed suicide by shooting himself in a school cafeteria with an AK-47. According to one report, there were 32 violent deaths last school year, including four stabbings ..... and that's just the deaths. What about non-terminal injuries? Oh, and what about suicides, too?
There has been a zero tolerance policy towards weapons in many states for years, and not without some justification, though it's a highly controversial policy. But I have some sympathy for authorities taking a very firm line in relation to weapons in schools. I certainly wouldn't want my kids in schools where other kids were carrying knives for whatever reason.
Being charged with a felony does seem like an overreaction, but being charged is one thing, being convicted is entirely another. And, of course, all we have is brief news reports and it's not unknown for there to prove to be more to it than there first appears.
Finally, this is not an isolated incident. There have been a number of similar incidents over at least five or six years.
I took a swiss army knife to school with me every day from the age of 11. Good thing it was a far less hysterical age.
Humans, the only animal stupid enough to pay to live on the planet Earth.
She was arrested for taking a steak knife into school not for using it. Steak knives are serrated and sharp and certainly not needed to eat a school dinner! I imagine the school had normal knives for students to use.

She shouldn't have a steak knife in school, because of the risk to her and the other kids. A 10 year old doesn't need somehting that sharp for eating lunch.
Most accidents in the home happen in the kitchen and that includes fully grown adults. Given the suing culture in america I can see why they took it away from her.
Nice sensationalist headline though![]()
The knives are definitely out for the poor student..though we're always spoon-fed these sensational headlines aren't we.

There is a child's education and civil rights at steak here!
i hope she gets her just desserts
(on a side note, don't the school provide the appropriate cutlery for each meal?)

"Students told officials that the girl did not threaten anyone with the knife.
The girl was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center."
My point is not that she should be allowed to have a steak knife at school, of course she shouldn't. It's what they did to a 10 year old girl as a reaction to it.
A verbal "slap on the wrist" and talking to the parents should certainly suffice.. not arresting the poor girl.
