Re: Creationists plan British theme park

theres actually an advert on this page that kindly states that "genetic scientists now know that darwins theory of evolution is impossible".... glad thats cleared it up!

Its a pitty that not content with child molesting, cultists have to go to war with science.

linkie: Request the FREE booklet, Creation or Evolution - Does It Really Matter What You Believe? i'm amazed that the 'world order' hasn't DrDoS'ed this back into the stone age.

Creationism = concrete proof that evolution does not happen (to some people...rednecks who marry their cousins for 10 generations for example...))

you're all getting very excited about, I must admit.
    Reactionaries.

most of you tend to conflate creationism with earth-in-6-literal-days. why so blinkered?
what about the history of the earth taking a good few zillion years etc, BUT that God is the author, and that God is a part of the equation? You all have an astounding faith in chance ('infinity' is such a lovely cop-out).
oh, and by the way, christians don't have a monopoly on child molestation, as so many of you repeatedly like to pretend.

Errr, i made it quite clear that my complaint was against cultists.

Is christianity a cult in your view?

I suppose it ticks all the boxes, and if the glove fits. (then its proof that god designed the glove + the hand... obviously).

I don't think people are refuting that there could be a supernatural force behind the scenes pulling the strings, in fact you can't dis-prove that ascertion as much as you could never prove it, but we can say that evolution appears to work pretty much bang on theory. Denying that is moronic. These people need to learn its easyer to bolt their religion onto evolution, rather than fight it. (like they did with pagan/roman/bythantian festivals such as Christmas and Easter).

Re: Creationists plan British theme park

I think the issue, and hence the laughter, is with young earth creationists who believe the earth is 6,000-10,000 years old and not for example with someone who believes in a creator and that human beings have evolved at the behest of that creator.

The problem then becomes a bit foggier because some people then propose intelligent design which is certainly not observed by science.

The most awesome intellect I've ever come across on the web with regard to the evolutionary question is a bloke that goes by the name of Deludedgod on the RRS forums. He's a molecular biochemist who takes the time to explain things in a way the layman can understand, but you soon realise that the science of evolution is an awfully lot more complex and difficult for the layman to understand and even the basics are gotten wrong by alot of people on both sides of the "debate".

There's nothing to say that God wasn't involved in creation or got the ball rolling or whatever but that is not the domain of science. One of the most pernicious factors of ID/Creationism is that they try to portray themselves as being scientific when all they are (IMHO) are reactions against unpalatable truths (for religious folks) that science has shown which go against biblical traditions or other forms of scripture.

I know one scientist (a chemist, I think) who's devoutly Catholic and completely against ID/Creationism. Dawkins gave a good example of how real science and ID work - standing at the bottom of a cliff he said the ID proponents believed you could go from base to top in a single bound. Scientists believed you took the winding path at the back of the cliff which eventually went to the top.

You may as well teach that The Flintstones is accurate paleology to follow what the Creationist camp (and its bastard child, ID) try to peddle. These people have an agenda and it's a dangerous one.

    JMHO, of course.

So your saying the earth was not created in 7 days 6000 years ago and you accept the scientific assessment of several billion years then?

If so that is good to hear, you may not be completely nuts, however there are others who call themselves christians who have an unswerving belief that the earth is 6000 years old and that you are wrong. They roll out the same arguments you do, God told them, says so in the Bible etc. Why should anybody take anything either camp's say seriously when you seemingly can't agree on what it is god is telling us between yourselves. Don't give me any crap about interpretation of the scripture, you told me he talks to you. So tonight when your having a chat why don't you ask him in detail how and why this all exists, oh and also maybe you can get him to explain how gravity and general relativity be realized as a fully consistent quantum field theory. I somehow doubt he will hand over the answer given that I can't think of a single physicist who claims to get results by speaking to a deity, usually they have to engage in some sort of 'scientific method'.

Give it a go anyway and post the results here will ya?

By the way, I loved this line in your post ''infinity' is such a lovely cop-out', I wonder do you even realise how ironic that statement is?

Re: Creationists plan British theme park

Good luck to them! If they want to peddle their views to a largely post-Christian society, using modern forms of indoctrination (media suite), so be it Imo the abject rejection of birth control by parts of the Christian church, in light of the rapid spread of AIDs/HIV, is far more concerning. (off topic I know) If people want to argue about how we got here then so be it, but I'd be surprised if moderate creationists wanted to do away with science completely.

Creationists make a soft target compared to some "minority" groups whom have much more questionable aims/beliefs!

(Further off topic - but for anyone interested in infinity and its limitations - I suggest you look up "mandelbrot" on google video)

as a non-religious person, it is funny to see people attacking other people because of their religious belief although no one is forcing them to go to the theme park anyways. Reminds me of how people hate other people due to their sex, sexual orientation, race, and other things...so in other words, the religion haters act the same as the religion lovers...

^I have no hatred of religion or love of it, people have faith (I'm agnostic) but the Creationist agenda is dangerous because it peddles an opinion which is flawed and not based in fact.

Would you be happy for your kids to be taught that God made the world in six days in the science class in school? This is the kind of agenda that the people behind this park have and what's more, they have the money to push their stupid opinions into places where it shouldn't be.

I hope that people who might visit will be sophisticated enough to see what's going on and point and laugh but the fact it's even being contemplated depresses me greatly.
