    Buying a B-grade screen?

Im looking at buying a Samsung 22" monitor, however i set myself a budget of £200. This gets me the 226BW, however for an extra £16(am willing to spend a little extra) i can get a B-grade Samsung 226CW - ie the model up & better in all respects. Being B-grade means it has either been bought & returned, been faulty but repaired under warrenty or has been tested/used for a demo by Komplette. It comes with a 12 month warrenty, instead of the usual 36month.

Would you risk it? In thoery it should be as good as new whatever has happened with it, but the 1 year warrenty instead of 3 has me wondering if its worth saving £25? On the flip side, if it is faulty after a year, the £25 i spend would probably cover a gd bit of the repair bill.

Not when I can get a brand new one for £220 + P&P; that's where I got my two from
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

    Re: Buying a B-grade screen?

    You're welcome

Well, I was happy enough to buy two of them about a month apart - they're more than capable enough for my needs; coding and gaming, etc. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

    Re: Buying a B-grade screen?

Hmm, for a TN, that's ludicrously expensive. I'd give up on beer for a week or 2 and get this instead (PVA panel - and seemingly reduced to ~£230 every few weeks if you're not in a hurry).

    Re: Buying a B-grade screen?

Granted it's a TN but it's a good TN made by a reputable manufacturer - not a re-badged cheapo. If you're going for that sort of standard, you might as well pick one up whilst doing your grocery shopping at Asda (support would be about the same quality, if not better )

I don't do too much in the way of graphical work, apart from sorting out my photos and editing PSDs for skinning an app a client wants, and it doesn't take long to get used to; gaming it still great, the real estate a bonus and I know it's a quality brand.

    Re: Buying a B-grade screen?

It makes no difference. Doesn't matter who the manufacturer is - the panel will be the same - only different revisions, all of which are crap as anything other than budget monitors, where they're admittedly not bad.

£215 for a B grade TN panel is just a rip-off. £220 for a new one isn't all that much better.

    It's £220 for a new panel not a B grade one

    Re: Buying a B-grade screen?

iv thought about a 24" but i think id struggle to fit it in, iv got a low shelf above my desk so it would need to be les then 50cm in height. Id also like a reputable brand i can trust rather then a 'value select' monitor.

Not only that i still run on a 6600GT as i dont do much gaming these days, mainly films, and i think a 24" might push it a little bit. Especially seeing as i run a dual screen with a 17".

Its the cheapest iv found, used a 206BW a few times myself & was very impressed with it (why im lookin for its big brother). There is /was a bit of a problem involving which panel you got but im not sure if thats been sorted yet(google 206bw panel lottery).
