"Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
I just changed allthe outside lights for energy efficieny bulbs. I had them spare because I cant be bothered with waiting for them to work indoors when I want light. I had one in our room, but to see in the wardrobe involed panning to turn them on 30 seconds before you needed them.
Even WORSE outside. It's cold, and they just aren't glowing properly. You'd need to turn them on 10 minutes before you need them!
This technology has a way to go yet I think!

I know the older ones used to do that - it was horrible having to use the bathroom til the light decided to get brighter - but the newer ones (the one I use anyway) are much better as they only take a few seconds to glow.
I'm still waiting for home LED lighting to come down in price.

Wow Zak, I was going to post about this too :)
We picked some up (indoors) this week and replaced a few. They takes ages to get bright, not only that, but its very 'different' light.
Granted, they were nothing expensive, but then again I guess they shouldn't be too much or the cost will be offset against the cost of the electric :P

The one in our kitchen is terrible but I feel too guilty about all of the gadgets to replace it with a normal one!
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
I'd love to be eco freindly with my lighting but I much prefer the light from halogen bulbs :p
We have a few of these bulbs in our student house. They are rubbish and I agree with agent they do look different even when in full life.
We had some at work which popped into life instantly but I didn't think much to them either really. They were "spot lights" .. and you certainly had to try hard to spot them.
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
it's pretty brand and model specific - both the color of light you get, and the warm-up time
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
I got one for my hall and it is far brighter than the one it replaced. The old one was one of those ones where the long tube has been bent repeatedly into a rectangle. The new one looks like a normal incandescent bulb but completely white. It's really bright. Takes about half a second to come on and is almost completely bright, but is 100% bright in about 5 seconds.
The ones I had about 5 years ago were rubbish though.

You see why I don't use the main lights in my lounge now, as they're the wrong sort of light for a lounge, not soft enough.

Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
So which makes are good then?
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
How well do they work with adjustable level light switches?
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
The new one i put in says this on the top of the box:
Osram
Duluxstar
Classic A
15W/827
LUMILUX
Warm White
800lm
220-240V - E27 - 50/60Hz
Had to dig through my recycling to find that :)
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
"bulb"-shaped energy savers are best, followed by twist-shaped ones, with fold-shaped at the bottom. as for brands, philips or get are much better than osram, IME
and never go with the direct equivalents, go for one size up (e.g. 11w is meant to be 60w equiv, but go for 14w instead)
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
oh, and there are two types of color temperature - "cool" (~4000k) and "warm" (~3000k). pick the one you prefer

I'd like to know that, too.
Unless there's some new ones I'm not aware of, they don't .... or at least, they say they don't. I haven't tried it.
Re: "Energy Efficient Light Bulbs" my butt cheeks !! silly things
We have energy save bulbs that look like halogens in our house. Have no idea what make etc as the house is a new build inside.
They work really well though, can hardly tell the difference.
