    Broken Toe... Recovery Period?

28th December, I broke my toe (self diagnosed, funny angle, funny colour, lots of pain) whilst drunk one night. You know the score, same old painful stub, but I must have really done it with force.

Anyway, the very next day I played Ice Hockey knowing it would hurt. It did, but so what...

    before hockey
    after hockey

Between the 29th, and the 2nd I rested it and I could feel it was getting better. However, I returned to work on the 2nd and my shoes are obviously a bit too snug and it started to ache again. I played hockey again last night and it's not as black as it was previously, but it's hurting again now which is understandable - however...

My question is, how long am I looking at recovery wise if I continue to work on it. How long would normal recovery be?

er, unless it was always like that (90 degrees out) I'd get it seen to and fixed... unless you want to have problems later on...

    nice pics though

We don't really encourage medical based threads here to be honest - go see your doctor rather than ask randoms on the net.

    Re: Broken Toe... Recovery Period?

I'm not after help really, just wondering what the recovery period is. A doc aint gonna do schmuck for a broken toe other than say rest, and thats just not an option been so in love with my sport.

    Re: Broken Toe... Recovery Period?

Your recovery time is going to be much much longer if you continue to do hockey on it!

How do you expect a broken bone to heal if you keep putting it under stress? It may never heal back together properly if you don't let it get some strength back, and I don't know about you but I find my toes quite useful in skates.

The doc may give you something to protect it more and can give you an accurate time of recovery. You can't ignore injuries if you're serious about your sport.

Broken toes normally take several weeks to heal (In average about 2 to 4 weeks).

But I really recommend you go see a doctor and get an x ray done to see how bad it is.

    Re: Broken Toe... Recovery Period?

Someone told me the other week that you don't need your little toe for anything at all (conversely your big toes and little fingers are very important) - we are evolving away from having them. Just snip it off.

I'd say I use mine when skating for the leg-crossing cornering. Maybe I don't much in normal everyday life, but as he's so keen on Ice Hockey I think it's fairly important for him to have all his toes.

    what 3 hours?

My little toe is pretty fundamental for stopping. I've a game this weekend, but after that I might miss a few training sessions. The swellings almost completely gone now, it's just a little blue still, the pains slowly going aswell, which is all good as I'm on the ice for about 6 hours this weekend!
