    Pandora locking down. US only.

Just got an email to tell me that as of middle of January, Pandora will no longer be streaming outside the US. To be honest I haven't used it all that much since I first picked up on it ages ago, but that's because I can't play music while I work, even so, got to say that it was a fantastic product, and it's just crap that the various rights organisations are too stupid and greedy to be able to sort out a viable licensing agreement to allow something like Pandora to continue.

If they could sort something out for the US, how hard could it be to do the same for Europe and in particular the UK?

    Did anyone else us Pandora?

Hasn't this been going on for a while though? (well, last year)

Pandora shuts box on users outside US | The Register

I was under the impression they already blocked it even though I was still using it. I haven't had anything through my mailbox yet, but maybe this time it's for real.

Indeed I have found plenty of artists and albums I never would have found otherwise.

    Last.fm Radio

It has a very similar function, type in an artist/genre and it'll play similar tracks, or sign up and let it record your listening habits and it'll play back music it thinks you'll like.

... Yeah, Last.fm is pretty good, I also like deezer.com, a French outfit doing pretty much the same thing. Shame about Pandora all the same.

Yup, just got the email - used it a lot when I was writing essays, quite nice not knowing which song was next, and as someone else has said, exposed me to artists I'd never heard of.

Re: Pandora locking down. US only.

Ah shame, however another vote here for Last.FM. It has a plug-in for Foobar 2000, which it uses to build up a profile of your listening habits. As I understand, Last.FM then recommends new music based on other people who have similar tastes. It's different to Pandora because although two bands' music might not analyse as similar, it's often the case that if you like band X you'll probably like Band Y.

Another nice tool I've found is MusicIP Mixer.

So is the blocking purely IP address based?
