    Extract TF2 files

Right, basically, i'd like to extract some of the sound effects from TF2, to put on my phone for cheesey text message tones

I downloaded GFScape in order to get to the TF2 files, I've found the sounds i want (Medic taunt : "That was doctor assisted homocide!"), but they are *.vcd files, and I have absolutly NO clue what to do with them. Googling the file extention didnt help, all i could find was things saying it was a file for a Video CD which souded wrong...so I'm asking for any hints/tips/big givaways on how to do it...

EDIT: Sorry, wrong section, wasn't paying attention, could the mods please move it to the appropriate place?

    Re: Extract TF2 files

Hmm not meaning to sound like a prude but isn't this copyright material? I only ask as it this discussion sounds pretty similar to asking how to rip DVD/CD content which is beyond the scope, and rules, of Hexus.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good

You aren't changing the format (assuming your phone can play wav files) and own the content, it's not encryption you are breaking either AFAIK, the gcf is a way of packing files IIRC

Up to the mods to decide of course though

I'm not sure you actually "own" the content - you might own a license to use it as it was intended - but I haven't read their EULA. Regardless, the content is still copyright material.

The point of my post was not for finger wagging, but to highlight that this might be dodgy (read illegal) ground. It doesn't, in my opinion, seem any different to posting a link to, for example, an album track.

    Re: Extract TF2 files

What you do with it is up to you, what pauldarkside is probably on about is finlay posting a link to copyrighted material on a public forum. Expect the mods to remove it.

    Pretty much, yup.

If people want to copy copyright material, and that certainly seems to be what this is (unless these files have been placed in the public domain or permission to do this has been granted), then that's their business .... provided they don't ask for help on it here.

This is certainly not exactly the copyright breach of the century, but nonetheless, we err on the side of caution.

DevilMayCry42, if you can show that these files aren't copyright protected, please PM me and I'll unlock this thread again. But in the meantime .... it's closed.
