Uni is great, no matter what anyone says, even if you go just for the social life, you meet so many people that you will most probably be friends with for life. And plus you always have a degree at the end to fall back on, if needed.

Academia is great for all the known reasons but it doesn't mean you can't be successful doing something else. In terms of monetary reward, being your own boss and having a larger degree of freedom, being a plumber/plasterer/electrician/roofer etc is hard to beat.

Anyway I love that advertisement. It has a kind of Dr Nick Riveira quality about it.

I bet the number has a Nigerian international code too!

My girlf friend hated going to university and really resents having been made to go by her parents.
    Its definatly not for everyone

You shouldn't waste your time on classes, exams and lessons. - do many students actually do this?? Working in a college i can honestly say most of them do this about 3 times a week then moan if they have to do anything else

    Permanently confused

Re: Don't waste your time at Uni getting a degree.....

I loved my first year of uni, not becuase of the getting sauced or baked or both all the time (and i did make time to get a first for my first year lol) but because of the freedom which is a lot of people's reason for going, of course this will depending on different people's upbringing.

I had a great summer in which I learned to once again appriciate my life at home and then...

I got back for year 2 an I havn't enjoyed uni since. I liked the placedment year (once again back at home with my new mrs) and now i'm back at level 3 .. bored out of my mind most of the time wondering why I'm doing computer science. I can't recall the last time I actually learned anything new.. and especially something of use.

In fact, I've even started taking business modules just so I have to learn something new!

Hmmm ... Might have to look into these email Degree's some more

I hated uni, 22 hours a week, up and out for 7:00am start at 9:00am fininsh at 6:00pm (lectures) then a 2 hour trip back home. It was really the worst thing in the world

Sounds very similar to my experience Mike. I only went to Uni because I didn't know what else I was going to do after college and I got a place on a course that sounded interesting. The actual course turned out to be pretty useless as it was only in it's 2nd year of running and the course tutors hadn't figured the structure out properly. Had a great first year because you're living away from home, but the novelty wears off when you have the projects stacked up in the 2nd and 3rd years.

About three quarters through the 2nd year I was pretty close to quitting because the course content simply didn't interest me (standard computer science with a games specialism btw). However, I thought it through and to be honest, I was nearly there so just stuck it out and got a 2.1 after the 3rd year. I'm glad I did because I learned a lot about myself in the last year, and the one thing I took away from Uni that I'm actually using is the ability to learn. None of the course content has been remotely useful to me, I think that many universities need to seriously rethink the way they teach their computing degrees.

Re: Don't waste your time at Uni getting a degree.....

I hated the last two years as I really couldn't be bothered tbh, however in this last year i've kicked myself into gear and really enjoying it now as i'm not stressing out rushing things in the last minute. I've noticed lecturers treating you different also in the final year.

The prospect of looking for work for september is scary but should be pretty easy IMO.
