    Stoleing!

    Cheeky little nobs Sky.

I joined them the other month, asked for a paper bill. Yesterday I get a letter from Barclays saying 'u is overdrawns you owe us thurty pounds!', I knew I couldn't be as I hadn't spent owt.

So I log on to my account and Sky have half inched £50.50p from my account via a completely unauthorised Direct Debit.

So I've had to ring up Barclays and get my overdrawn fine back. I couldnt work out how they had set it up as all I gave Sky was my name and address, no bank details, didn't even tell them I banked with Barclays.

Turns out they used my details from 4 years ago, the last time I had Sky before I turned it off.

If the government is losing your details, companies are ignoring your requests and plunder urs monies like Viking Ninja Pirates!

Good old Barclays though, sometimes when I ring them to get my overdraft charges back I'm telling the truth (like now), sometimes I might have to tell a little white porkie pie. They always fall for it though.

Thats how I like my banks, harsh but stupid, so I don't have to feel bad coning the money back out of them, that they nicked off me in the first place. (Until the test case has run, I consider all overdraft charges as theft, and lying to get them back as every sane persons duty)

So were you planning on singing up to a package and just hadn't given them you details yet? They had no right taking that out of your account without your permission.

    Re: Stoleing!

I think he wanted to get a bill which he would then pay, rather than Sky automatically taking the money via direct debit.

    Cheeky sods though tbh...

Yeah. I requested a paper bill, not Direct Debit.. They ignored this and used my bank details from my 4 year old subby to set up and take the money via DD, which sent me overdrawn and then Barclays hit me for another £30.

    Re: Stoleing!

I will yes. Got to ring Barclays back tomorrow first, as the department I need is open 8-till-6, and once the £30 is safely back in my account I will complain, write to my MP, and other things.

... Should have canceled the direct debit sunshine, that must have remained unclosed against your account from your previous contract. Definitely worthy of a complaint; make sure to post a written copy of the complaint if you go by the email route.

sometimes, you think you've cancelled a Direct Debit..and then the company in question enforces the agreement you signed/agreed to, and the Direct Debit re opens!

I kid you not. Try closing a PayPal direct debit!!! It's like trying to live without oxygen or water.....it can;t be done UNLESS they deem it ok to do so.

Stewart...I think you did well there, getting the charge back from Barclays, and Fair Play Barclay's for being cool about it

Bank charges, the fees excessive, but then again so is going over you agreed credit limit.

I wouldn't be surprised if soon banks stop hounering peoples accounts.

most banks will give anyone who has a semi-regular income a £500 overdraft.

agree to it, and just don't use it. Hardly un-fair is it?

    Re: Stoleing!

happened the same to me with Natwest and NTL. Always wondered how can we prove we didnt give them permission to establish the debit though....plus i still wonder how they got my bank details.

Really made me feel like my money was in the right hands.

    Re: Stoleing!

Outrageous from SKY but I've seen it happen before with direct debits and the small print. I remember getting motoring insurance from a company with an agreed deal for a year. I switched to another company who obviously I had to give previous details too but the original company kept debiting my account even though I hadn't extended the 1 year contract with them. I was technically breaking the law by having two policies. Sorted it out in the end through some poor bod in India.

What I don't understand is how banks can honour a charge/debit that pushes an account into debt when no overdraft has been agreed. If they do then it should be the bank's responsibility and they shouldn't be able to charge for it.

It's the same with credit limits. If I try to purchase something that takes me over my credit limit the I should get some message saying, "Oi! No! You muppet, you've not got enough credit". Why don't they just refuse the transaction?

    Re: Stoleing!

Phone up Sky and tell them how disappointed you are that the whole contract has started off this badly and you're not sure if you want to carry it on since they have already breached your trust...

... Then ask them to put you on the 3-months 1/2 price sweetner package as a returning customer (since you were there 4 years ago as they have proved). Don't take no for an answer, it exists and they've already overstepped the mark, I'm sure you could easily use what they've done to cancel your contract should you wish to. If they insist on saying no then hang up and try again until someone gives you a yes.
