    Brewery visit

Had a rather good day yesterday, and am quiet surprised at the lack of hangover today.

The local CAMRA branch organised a trip to a small local brewery called Larkins, and I just happen to be a big fan of their ale. So at 10.04 I hopped on a train to Penshurst where a minibus waited to take us to the brewery, its based on a farm just outside Chiddingstone. A smaller group from Canada had just finished the tour and was sampling the wares, so we went inside and the brewer apologised for the lack of of smaller glasses and served us all up a pint for breakfast (10.30). After a few more pints he gave us a tour of the facilities which were micro brewery sized, then back to the tasting room to do some more "research". The brewer spends most of his time running the farm, and does the beer as a side line, his entire brewing process if based on taste, and he seems to be rather good at it. We finally finished chatting and tasting at 1ish and the minibus took us to the pub he owns just down the road, a large bowl of venison stew washed down with a few more pints of Larkins and its 3ish and time to catch the train back home, we managed to fit in a quick pub visit just to survey it of course, and its beers, to round the day off. SO if your in the area and see Larkins beer try it, or if you get a chance of visiting them or any other brewery its well worth a look.

    Right time for more coffee.

I love Larkins, and live in Tonbridge so I always drive over and get a polybin of their traditional ale for about £40 (3.5% - great quaffing stuff) whenever I have a party/special occasion.

Which pub does he own nearby - little brown jug?

Good work Flibb - keep punting the real ale!

    Re: Brewery visit

He owns the Rock at Chidingstone, went there again today for lunch. Wife really likes it as well, very friendly country pub, dog friendly and there seems to be a fair few walkers going there.

There were several of famillys in there today, the pubs also got a small beer garden at the back. Just be aware that the pub is quiet compact and theres nearly as many dogs as people, its also very busy Sunday lunch times, but I think you can book a table, give them a bell to check opening times. Theres a couple of pubs in the area that do really good food, but they all get busy at weekends. Another really good one for food is the Bottle House at Penshurst, they also just happen to do Larkins and were named the best eating pub in Britain by the good pub guide.
