Indeed it is, but not really in the context of what, £1,700,000,000,000 (1.7 thousand billion) value of traded shares. A 5% hit is big in a day, but its hardlya crash.

Also you will notice the US market has not been hit so hard (yet) so the others will probably recover tomorrow.

    Re: Market Crashing!

I believe India took a 7% hit. for a supposedly hot emerging market, that is massive.

Isn't the US market closed today for a Bank Holiday? Which could leave a lot of US investors bricking it because they can't sell the shares rapidly loosing value, which they might see as the harbringer of a massive crash and be lining up to sell their shares tomorrow morning....

and all that just because "[...] tax breaks and spending measures will not be enough to boost consumer spending in the US [...]"? my god - glad my "financial portfolio" only goes as far as an ISA - that doesn't care if Americans don't have enough cash for consumer goods.

    Re: Market Crashing!

Whilst the drop was significant to warrent reporting, unless the trend continues for a couple of days it's unlikely to have a mid-term impact. Unfortunately when the market drops like this, I believe it follows with a price rise in oil as people transfer their investments to the more secure oil investment.

Hot unstable emerging market. There's lots of volatility in emerging markets no matter how advanced they appear to be.

Keep an eye on this instability in the world markets. There'll be opportunities to invest some cash for the medium/ long term!

Ironic really, they say 'today' is the most miserable day of the year. Day when among other things the christmas credit card bills drop through the letter boxes.

That and gold! Invest in gold when things look rough.

I provide IT support to investment banks and predict a bad day at work tomorrow! Was bad enough today.

Gold thou is hard to speculate upon today, this is because the CMX was of course, closed.

There is the london fixed price, but i can't find a 'free' one here.

but look at Commodities - Latest Trading Prices and Data from CNNMoney

place your bets now, as to the close of CMX Gold
