Ive tried many many bits of software that claim to be able to do this : In short, dont waste your time, just find a proper midi of the song your after if you can.
my degree involves audio analysis, sooo...
mp3 contains raw audio, sound wave style. midi stores information on the tempo, which instrument to play, and crucially, exactly which note. ransferring from midi to mp3 is easy - you just take the actual sound wave output & record it. mp3 to midi isn't remotely the samee thing - since it's nigh on impossible to analyse the wave, pick out individual instruments, pick the correct tempo instrument & note, and do it all with polyphonic music
any midis you find of popular songs will have been made from scratch by someone. that's the only option you have, unless someone's already redone the song you want & its' easily downloadable
Yep. Totally different technologies. Tried it once, and the result was terrible.
If you want a proper midi version, find it on the web as a polyphonic ringtone and, er, borrow the midi demo file ;) :p
agreed, just find a half-decent free ringtones site
thats what i've done but they're all mp3s instead of midi files!
anyone got any links to some stes with midi demo ringtones?
Just go on overnet/edonkey network you can download zip files with hundreds of midi files in I did thi sfor a friends and filled up about 300MB of midis and wallpapers etc.
300mb of midis? that would be millions...midis are so small...
Yes there where quite a few ;) 300MB was the total Cd size after I filled it with as many midis, wallpapers and things like that I could find.
i cant find the one i want on overnet i'm afraid, it doesnt matter tho.
www.myt610.net has quite a few polyphonic ringtones.. some are good, some a crap :) i hate the fact that people try to put a midi voice for the vocals.. completely ruins them tbh imo :)

I do this quite often for friends. The best way of doing a MIDI of a song is to sit down at a keyboard with Sibelius and start working it out :)
What tune are you after Elmo?
I know a friend with Cakewalk (funky music editor thing) - if you can find the sheet music for it (try taborama or similar) he might be able to do something.
Otherwise if you know somebody that can play the tune with an electric keyboard/organ a lot of them can record the music as a midi on a floppy disc. (another reason not to get rid of the good old floppy :D)
yeah i have some books of sheet music, and cakewalk and the like...
tell us what it is and im sure someone will have it
Dejavu... http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=8946.
Midi files are really easy to come by - I find just using google and guessing the name of the file works wonders e.g. 'simpsons.mid'.
The quality of the Midi composition does vary wildly, though, so you may need to try a few before you get the one that sounds 'right'!
A few sites to try...

Musical Instrument Digital Interface. That's a mouthful! I dont even think software exists to turn an mp3 into midi! It would be a waste of money if u think about it. Ive always been taught that midi files are designed exclusively for sequencers and such, and are saved as midi so that they can eaisly applied to any sequencer, just like an mp3 can be applied to any mp3 player.
I cant help u with finding software hun!
Wilk, you took the words right out of my mouth!
