    Amazon marketplace postage fees

I know the practise of charging less for the product, and then making your profit on the postage goes on a lot on eBay, but how can it be legal to charge £10-£15 to post a single ink cartridge?

I know the companies can probably justify it by saying it's expensive 'cause they put all their admin costs on the postage, which is probably applicable, but when amazon doesn't show you the cost of postage until the very last page, and even then all the marketplace postage costs are lumped together, it hardly makes it a pleasant shopping experience. Several times now I've got right to the end only to find that 'standard shipping' costs a whole lot more than the cost of the actual product.

    Bloody irritating.

I've been equally annoyed by this practice and have cancelled orders as a result. Last time was for some rechargable batteries - postage charges doubled the cost! Amazon should adopt a postage scheme based on weight, with all items on sale showing their shipping weight.

Actually I thought they now show the postage charges. If I choose Used and New the list comes up with the postage.

    Re: Amazon marketplace postage fees

I personally just look at the total post. I recently bought a book for £0.01 with the standard postage cost on books of £2.75, and I frankly have no complaint. As far as I know, Amazon postage in the marketplace are clearly listed in their marketplace delivery rate. The only complain I really have is that they don't offer bundled shipping.

I can understand from different sellers, but this applies to the same seller too. Which sometime can backfire: there has been at least one instance where I would've bought two of the same item had the dealer offered combined shipping. Since there are no saving from buying more than one now, why bother? It's the only thing I'd like Amazon to adjust.

On the plus side though, the postage is streamlined. You won't have to work out the better deal between one person charging 50p for an item then £5.00 for postage, versus another who charge £3.00 for the item then £2.00 for the item.

    Re: Amazon marketplace postage fees

I've listed a couple of items on Amazon in the past and got stung because they didn't charge the purchaser enough for postage; bloody great reference books which weighed too much and caught me out - you can't add extra costs for the extra weight. Try telling the Post Office that there's a single price for posting books!
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

    Re: Amazon marketplace postage fees

Some Amazon sellers sell like sets of ink in the same listing so why don't you buy that instead of one by one. Also when checkout you could have seen the postage and decide not to continue.

TBH Amazon's books are pretty much free-shipping and many people see 2.75 as too high already.

I just ordered a couple of books from Amazon MP and one of them still haven't got here after 13 days even though its a UK seller!

    Needed that book urgently :S
Quite unhappy with some of the marketplace sellers which ship really slow.
