    Derren Brown: The System

So I am predicting this before the end of the show.

I guess that the woman wins the bet, which in turn makes people think Derren Brown has some super power. The question is, did he have another 6 people? Did he lay each of the bets on betfair so that the winners would lose the least possible money?

    Thoughts?!

    Re: Derren Brown: The System

I was wondering why each race he was predicting at first only had 6 horses in each race. So, was the bit in the room with all the photos a set-up then or did they just get loads of people in until it all went right? I'm guessing the first one... Likewise with the ticket at the end. Why wouldn't you look at it straight away to see what you could win?

Im watching it at the moment, even though i hate Darren Brown people like him should put their "powers" to some earthly use rather than trying to brainwash or con people.

    Re: Derren Brown: The System

When did he try and brainwash and con people? He showed everyone that watched it and believed in his system that they are incredibly narrow minded and prepared to believe in something just because he made it look believable. He explained everything that he did in detail afterwards, so i can't see what the con was, tbh i found it to be a very entertaining program.

    What?
Darren Brown is one of the people who impresses others and drops all the "I have powers" bull. A lot of the time he shows how his tricks are done. If at any point he does mention "powers" he's doing it as part of an act / messing about.
Have a read of his books, he's a very clever man with a huge number of his tricks being based off maths and psychology. There has even been times where he has got it wrong and has no problem in saying / showing so.

Are you thinking of Uri Geller perhaps?

    Re: Derren Brown: The System

Derren Brown is an amazing "trickster", however, he always uses that talent for entertainment, not cons. And he shows how his "tricks" work (well most of the time, the man loves to leave puzzles!)

Sometimes there is no trick, it is simply a product of how long he has been examining human psychology: for example, I saw an episode once where he was blindfolded, in a pitch-black room, on planks and pillars. Some of the paths they made were trapped, and there was only one way off - fall on to a matress at one end, off one of 3 pillars.
He found his way by identifying fluctuations in the person's natural voice while they were lying, and managed to get off safely.

I'd love to see this episode again, only this time with a politician helping him

    Re: Derren Brown: The System

I missed this unfortunately but I've always found his shows quite amusing. Has anyone seen the zombie game/real life thing he did? Whether it is real or not.. I dunno.. what I do know is it's hilarious to watch.

He has used his "powers" to con the bookies before. Again whether it was real or not I don't know but he managed to get them to pay out on a losing ticket very entertaining.

    Re: Derren Brown: The System

The zombie one was great. As was the one where he bought things using sheets of blank paper that were shaped like bank notes!

However, lots of you comment on how he explains his tricks at the end of the show. I think the point is that he actually doesn't give anything away, all he does is create a realistic way of having done it. Most of the time his explanations are just to throw you off the scent.

This time, however, I reckon he bought a ticket on all of the outcomes. Then he layed all of the outcomes on Betfair so that he only lost about £30-50 on each £4000 bet. He then just had to stump up the cash for the actual winning ticket. Far cheaper than trying to guess a last horse in the last race. When the lady was chucking the ticket away is when he switched the ticket to the winning one.

Those are my thoughts anyway.... Ill have to ask my magician mate about it.

    P.S.

    Re: Derren Brown: The System

The thing is i tend to believe that what he does is real and that he just knows how to manoeuvre and manipulate people into doing what he wants them to through psychology and suggestion etc. Maybe that just makes me gullible too
