    Replacement for Egg card

Had a listen to the news this morning and heard that Egg (under new ownership) are to give all there 'high risk AND possibly non profitable customers the 'heave' in about 35 days. Think I would fall into the later as my card is usually at zero unless I buy a computer 'bittie' on-line. I'm a 'bad' customer -always pay of in time so they 'ain't making any money' apart from a new service charge which appeared a couple of months ago. Don't know for sure if this will affect me or not yet but might be looking for another card for my on-line stuff - any recommendations ?.

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

I doubt they'll be wanting to kick you as a customer, or me as a fellow egg card holder (both blue and green).
Also always paid off ( but I do spend a few thousand a month on it)

I might be on the lookout to change too, since they reduced the cashback to 0.5% and limit cashback payout to £200 a year.

Any cards giving better cashback deals (Not amex as no bugger accepts it online )

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

Even if you pay them off before incurring interest, they make money on your purchases from the retailer. But since you hardly ever use your card, yes you are probably a bad customer. I should imagine these measures will only be applied to high-risk customers though, what with everything going on.

Given your usage it doesn't make any difference at all which card you have - might as well go with the one your bank offers, so you don't need to log on to two different sites. Or choose one that looks nice. Or a charity one or something.

I've always found the nationwide cc great, esp. if you travel, you can get excellent deals on foreign currency (I've never been chaged a % for getting currency on the card.)

Used to have an Amex Corporate card but found I could not buy anything local with it at that time -only any good for flights and airport car hire.

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

Isn't there a £200+ annual fee for Platinum though?

I was offered one once and thought about it for all of a nano-second before binning the application form.

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

I use mine plenty but do pay it off.

I have got a fair bit of cashback as I tend to use it only for purchasing things, I don't use my debit cards much anymore aside from when I pay in money or need cash

    I don't think there is a fee...

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

Egg credit card down to 0.5%? Guess I'll stick with Smile for cashback then (also 0.5%, but saves me an application). I just need a credit card for oversea use - the Post Office one is looking good.

Normal Platinum has a £300 annual fee. The Platinum MoneyBack doesn't

The former is a traditional Amex charge card, the latter is a credit card.

So I guess we are both right

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

I will have to check on Monday if I have got a letter from them. I use my card regularly and pay it off completely every month, don't know if that makes me unprofitable...

Also, cashback is still 1% for me... Just checked online.

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

I'm a bad Egg customer, never use it!

I applied for a Virgin card the other day, 0% until April 09. 3% balance transfers... I'm shifting money to my current account and putting it into a savings account @ 6%... free money is the best kind!!

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

I'm a 'tart' - I change cards often and use them for whatever benefit I can get - previously I had an M&S 'More' card which was interest free for 12 months. I bought a nice PC system with that and paid it off for those 12 months. Recently, I've got a Halifax card which is interest free for 15 months and a new laptop's gone on to it.

I use Money Saving Expert: Consumer Revenge - Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more to pick up tips.

I'm a bad customer too. I always pay on time and make sure that if I really had to I could pay off any debt really quickly. So far, it's worked out fairly well.

Unfortunately not, some are allready reporting that they've had the letter from Egg, and they're the sort who pay off their credit card instantly

    Re: Replacement for Egg card

Still showing 1% on online for me too for the cashback?!

    Btw who took over?

    Wait, found it its Citigroup

Senior MPs are demanding an Office of Fair Trading investigation into greedy banks after Egg's decision to ban 160,000 customers from using their credit cards dramatically backfired.
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!
