Unhappy Bridgend, Wales, is it really THAT bad??

The Welsh town of Bridgend was mourning the loss of another of its young people after an 18-year-old woman became the 14th person from the area to commit suicide in the past year and the 34th since 2006.

Angeline Fuller was found hanged at her home in Commercial Street in the Nantymoel area of Bridgend by her boyfriend, named locally as Joel Williams, 21, at about 1am on Monday.

Ms Fuller is thought to have been found hanging from the banister of the house after a party the couple had thrown.

Mr Williams left a message of dedication to his partner on his MySpace page. It read: "Just a note to let you all know that at 1am Monday morning, life took away from us one of the kindest, sweet-hearted, loving people we could ever have been blessed to know. I love Angie and I always will. I love you baby. Xxx."

Very strange whats happening in Bridgend. Two more people (cousins) were found within ours of each other, it was reported today. They say they aren't linked to the other deaths, but its still strange that two more people from the same area hang them selves.

I saw this, read somewhere that they all used the same website that discussed suicide... not sure if it's true or not though.

I was impressed that the OP went without follow up for some time. It seemed to show that the diverse and sometimes volatile discussion on the forum was united in a mutual respect.

The events are tragic regardless of the reasons and in memory of the young people lost, I would suggest that speculation about the cause is overridden by the tragedy.

I hope you agree. I personally feel this to be a topic best left alone.

Respect for the dead? On these forums?

When Steve Irwin was killed, within 4.2 seconds, there were 1982 'funny' pictures, most featuring scenes from Stingray, the kids tv prog.

There be no respect for the dead around these parts.

Lived down the road from Bridgend up until recently, and while it's not a great place it's hardly the worst I've been too! Hope they find out whats going on up there, this suicide business is crazy considering how small a place it is.

It all seems like a plot from the latest Hollywood blockbuster, or even that there's some kind of sicko on the loose murdering people and making it look like suicide....

Coincidently, I'm reading Relentless by Simon Kernick right now and it has a couple of murders that are staged to look like suicides.

I think I read too much crime fiction, that was one of the first things I thought when I heard about this on the news.

I still can't believe the police are saying there's no link between any of them.

How can you have 17 teen suicides in a matter of months in a small town and say there's no connection!?

Re: Bidgend, Wales, is it really THAT bad??

It's not a small town (well, it is a town, but it's also a county, and most of these occured outside of the town I think), and sadly suicide rates are really that high across the whole country.

Suicide is second only to car crashes as cause of death for young men.

Have there been over 17 fatal car accidents in this part of wales invovling teenagers in the same time frame?

Crazy, either way... feel very sorry for the familys of these kids, not good news - but from an outside perspective it looks like more is going on than what the media has reported..
