Some sod's just nicked my camera

I'm working hard not to loose my rag on this one, but I'm not having a lot of luck.....

Some git came into the store about an hour ago enquiring after some of our pieces, took a card and I thought nothing of it. Went back to my desk and carried on with some work. About an hour later gave the missus a call, and half way through the conversation noticed that my Canon DSLR was missing. I'd been using it that morning for some product shots and had put it down at the back of my desk.

The guy (would be believe it, looked Nigerian) had been the only person anywhere near the desk that afternoon...must have just picked it up and stuck it under his coat. Can't believe I didn't notice him do it, or notice it was missing sooner. Kicking myself.

The only consolation is that it was an old camera and I'll be able to put the insurance claim towards getting a new one....but even so, a Canon 10D, a (nearly new - 6 or seven week old) Tamron 17-50mm 2.8, and a 2Gb Sandisk Extreme III CF Card....he must be laughing.

    Furious.

Sorry to hear that cant imagine what it'd be like I know id be fuming if someone nabbed my 400D.

Not much you can do in hindsight, and not that it makes up for it, but at least you can stick a claim in for it.

If you dont mind me asking what do you do/what sort of shop is it?

Gutted...have you got CCTV or anything. Not that it will make much difference anyway.

No, nothing. We thought about putting something up, but everyone we know in retail says it's not any deterent to anyone, and the police never do anything with it unless there's been a violent assault/robbery, and we're not prime targets given market and location.

for assessing CCTV's worth, would my insurance overheads decrease.

If they don't think it will deter theft, odds are its not going too.

    Un-lucky about the camera.

Re: Some sod's just nicked my camera

Well, at least there was no CCTV to nick too. I bit of a bugger isn't it? I had mine nicked by a burglar in Luxembourg and I ended up buying a much better one I didn't really need. No self-control.

Re: Some sod's just nicked my camera

Yeah, well I'm working up to justifying a Canon 40D, which I've been trying to justify for a looooong time but I doubt the insurance will stretch anywhere near that far.....And I do need it. I do. I do. I do. Honest.

Re: Some sod's just nicked my camera

It was the reference to nearly new that threw me....my 10D was about four years old....I can't blame the shock for my brain not working, it was about an hour before I noticed it was missing, and it was right by elbow and it's not a small camera.

sorry to hear that bro. it sucks, hate the gutting feeling that you get. and the fact that if you did this.. or that... or just checked sooner you might have been able to prevent it
