Women are utterly confusing to most men, most of the time. The moments of clarity are lies.
Women are certainly very difficult to understand until you have spent a hell of long time with them even if it's just as friends (it's actually easier to understand if you are totally outside of these love triangles). You start to see the one thing above all the typical things they like (confidence, possibly slightly cocky/arrogant depending on the girl) is a competition.
Where men can't stand it (I really can't and I'd give up in a heart beat if my gf ever tried any of that nonsense with me) women seem to thrive on it. This is why usually you go from zero to 2 or more women liking you at once as they like to win. Hence, "Treat 'em mean keep 'em keen".
I never believed it until a few years ago in the time leading up to going out with my current gf.. crazy.
Being a nice guy can work, but you need to find a trade off between the two in my experience.

Not as bad as the whole, I wont have desert or I wont order the chips then they steal urs!! Order your own, DO NOT EVER attempt to steal mine under any circumstances.
They can be a bit peculiar at time - like at high school when because one fancied me they all decided they would fancy me to see who could win my affection. (three friends). And I've spoke to them and it very much does seem like a competition sometimes.
But that was highschool, and the boys were just as bad for fancying all of them indiscriminately. At one dvd watching / thing I had a girl sitting on my lap and another next to me with my arm round her.
As people grow up the childish play does seem to go away. I think back and feel nothing but shame... heh. (but it was good while it lasted). I can't think of any generalisations about women anymore at uni actually, except that none seem to fancy me.

Seems hard to believe but Mystery's social dynamics seems clever.
I know someone who is.. seems to be working.
That book made me laugh SO hard, not meant to be funny, but I thought some of the imagery was just classic. Glad I've never had to use any of those techniques, can't see it working on women with any sort of intelect. Still, if it gives you the required confidence, then go for it.

We all know this is because their minds trick them and they think that if they do not buy it for themselves then the calories do not count and they do not stick to the hips. Their YOUR chips/cake so technically they believe they are YOUR calories as well.
To answer the question "What is it with girls?" start with the question: "What is it with men?" and vice versa. When you work it out, keep it to yourself, I like not knowing
