Just to give fair warning, for some reason my cravings for a ciggie have returned, and not being able to have one, because I'm now a confirmed non-smoker have put me in a very bad mood.

PMT got nuttin on me.

So I am spoiling for a fight.

So ignore me for a bit. I'll try to stay off the forums.

I'm in two similar boats, to be honest. I quit back in September. Haven't smoked one cigarette since then.

Recently, I've had some quite enticing cravings to just buy 10 cigarettes and smoke them, one after the other. Just to get it out of my system. I've had this craving for going on two weeks now, though I've managed to abstain. It might subside, it might not. I'll persevere for now though.

Today I had a confrontation that I almost wanted to turn physical. I haven't had a fist fight in quite a long time, and the person in question was certainly asking for such a confrontation. I abstained from this too, due to being with my wife at the time, and it being my 6th month wedding anniversary today (nothing particularly special of course, just a nice reason to get fish and chips for dinner, eh).

Would have loved a scrap this evening though. Followed by 10 chemical-ridden Embassy Number 1's. What a wonderful evening that would have been.

I applaud you for not giving in to the cravings. Just think how much better off you will be financially, and your health too! Plus you are not paying like loads of more unnecessary tax to the government!

Seriously though, congratulations on resisting the cravings, stick with it, it WILL get easier as time passes.

I know that feeling myself Stew.

I gave up for 3 weeks and the other weekend went on a major drinking session with Microsoft in Manchester which resulted in me getting rather drunk and having a few cheeky ones which then resulted in me starting again.

Ahh well... time to start giving up again I suppose

It's very tough to not give in; just hang in there Stewart. I have every confidence that you'll get through it. If it gets REALLY bad, try a Nicorette inhalator to take the edge off.

proud of you lad, i tried twice to quit and but nearly 3 stone on during, then started smoking again so i dread to think if i quit again, be a right bloater.
friend of mine quit at christmas and picked up a new hands on hobby to pre occupy himself and take his mind off it - gonna give that a try myself once my debts are out the way and i an afford a hobby

Do it! I stopped 8 weeks ago today and it does get easier as time goes on.

Stewart, whatever you do don't give in! I made that mistake last year and was just smoking like normal again, you will feel even more angry at yourself if you give in and waste all that effort.

You might think that you want to do that but if you've not been smoking for a while you'll probably get half-way through your first Embassy and think "Stuff this, it's disgusting". The only problem with that is that it won't put you off... 30 mins later you'll want another, and it will be slightly better... a few in and you'll be back to your old habits again.

I quit years ago, but for some reason at the start of january I started again, straight back into the swing of things with about 10 a day. Something, somewhere inside me must have blown a fuse because it was crazy how quickly it happened.

However, I've not smoked since monday and I don't care for them at all. I can't prove it, yet, but I think it almost certainly has something to do with the moon/dinosaurs.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Having done similar things in previous attempts of giving up, I'm quite happy just to accept that they're cravings and if I give into them I'll be back to square one. Living in a non-smoking building helps too... as well as living with a non-smoking wife.

All is good. I've started eating beans again after 12 years of fear.
