My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
Had literally just paid for 2 bottles of beer and some crisps to snack on this evening, loaded up my carrier with one bottle and the crisps and I heard this almight bang, looked in my carrier only to see one of my bottles of beer had exploded !!
The check out girl was about as interested in the problem and was more interested in going home. I asked her if I could just take another one off the shelf, she just shrugged her shoulders and walked away from me, useless girl.
So went to customer services with the bag dribbling beer all over the place, explained the situation and he said sure, just grab another bottle :) he asked if I wante dto complain about the girl who served me on the checkout but I said no, it wasn't worth getting bent out of shape over and no harm was done to anyone.
Thats the first time that has ever happened to me.
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
this is why i don't drink lager - too fizzy!
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
You can have this problem if you store your ale in the fridge on it's side, take it out and open it... I've lost a whole bottle in this manner... whoosh, like a roman freekin candle!
Moral: let it rest upright for a minute afore ye open it ;)
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
I was just well, unlucky.
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
Ive never had this happen with anything alocholic, however I have had a carton of smoothie explode when I didnt fridge it in time!
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
This can also be a side-affect when the fridge just isn't cold enough and you use the freezer... and forget. Cans have enough give and you just get a Stella-flavoured ice-lolly, the bottles tend to have their tops forced off, or a cracked bottle. Still, as the lager is a paste by then it's generally a bit less messy.

Thats just brought back a few memories of my 18th, we went to get various canned drinks from Sainsburys, the usual assortment of beer and cider, stuck them in the freezer to cool them down, and completely forgot about them! Let me tell you these cans did not have enough give what so ever! My friends mum still hasnt forgiven me for giving them a yellowish looking freezer!
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
LOL, I must have left more than a dozen cans in the freezer for 24hrs now (my memory is just dire) and I've never seen anything other than a rather solid can. Just let it defrost and it was fine. :)
Every bottle on the other hand has ended with a frozen waterfall of froth, if you like. Not particularly messy, but a nightmare when it melts (frozen froth constantly foaming out of the dislodged top).
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
You must just be lucky, or your taste in drinks come in very sturdy cans!
Re: My bottle of beer - Exploded !!
Cans give aswell in the freezer, it's happened to me on a few occasions.

I froze a bottle of white wine recently - the screw cap just gave a bit and thankfully it didn't explode everywhere..! It tasted fine after a defrost.
I've noticed that Pepsi Max, when frozen (by an over-enthusiastic fridge), seems to chemically change and develops a funny taste. Hmmm...
