Re: This makes me all happy inside

I heard a radio adaptation of one of the Guards books on BBC 7, probably guards guards, and it annoyed me. Vimes wasn't grumpy enough and was portrayed as a bit of a "Earnest Copper". The whole point is that Carrot is the earnest copper, and Vimes is the disillusioned cynic. And the Patrician was a bit too much like a slimy local councilor, not nearly menacing or subtle enough.

Maybe it's just been a long time since I read the early books, and the characters changed over the intervening couple of decades. Guess I'll have to dig them out for a re-read.

PS - Sandman - yes that would be good. Except it would be hard to figure out how to get his voice right.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.

Rincewind in my mind's eye has always been a weird hybrid between Catweazle (Geoffrey Bayldon) and Richard E. Grant.

If the Patrician character in any adaption isn't played by Alan Rickman, then it's Just Not Right.

Easy - it should be James Earl Jones, doing a Brian Blessed impression; or vice versa.

Alright then, James Earl Jones doing an impression of Joan Jett.

I wonder, if he does falsetto, does that sound like a normal person speaking normally?

    That, has made my evening.

Back to Pratchett, Alan Rickman would be good as the patrician as long as they don't make him ham it up too much.

I've got the graphic novel of Guards, Guards and would agree that it is awesome. I preferred it over the colour of magic or any of the other Discworld books I've read.

I've got a DVD of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, which was pretty good. I read the book and saw that the BBC had an adaptation, so bought it from Amazon: not bad!

Discworld death would be awesome if Christopher Lee did it

On the subject of Gaiman, i was rather disappointed with Stardust - it was a great film don't get me wrong, but there were so many little bits that were missed out that made the book so good.

I'd be interested to see them do either the Last Continent, any of the Vimes novels (not too much need for SFX) and possibly Carpe Jugulum. Equal Rites could work pretty well too.
