    Re: Universitys

Oh yeah forget foundation degrees dont count for anything just generate more money for universities bums on seats means tuition fees. Thats what you first year is for as it counts for nothing also only second and third year goes toward your degree. Another bit of advice is try and go to a red brick uni as your degree is worth more. example a big city uni. University of Bristol is not bad as far as I know but beware of those former poly's that have university in their name. Like Leeds Metropolitan or Liverpool John Moores University. In general they are crap some specialise in courses and are good at certain subjects but find out which do some research.

The best thing I ever saw was in the toilets at the University of Liverpool which someone had written on some toilet paper 'sociology degree please take one'..lol

Take it from me if 2 students have on their CV the same degree one from Unveristy of Cambridge/Oxford/Duram/Leeds etc and the other one from the University of Wrexham I know which the employer would pick.

Not that I am cynical or bitter

    again hope it helps

I think this would be a very good idea for you. A very, very good idea. Please, take the level zero course. Right now.

Do what I do! Bugger uni, stay working in a bar (Pouring a pint is my favourite pastime!), and fix up family/friends computers for a bit of cash in hand on the side!

Well I'm not sure what a level 0 and level 3 is but if you doning a standard BSc degree you first year will teach you how to write essays and will not count towards your final degree mark. There really is no need for a foundation course it is a waste of your time and money IMO.

    Re: Universitys

I don't know why anyone with decent A-Level grades won't want to go to uni?
For me it was a no brainer, it was the next step in life... as Saracen said you meet so many different people from all over the world... Its an amazing experience... plus it gives you the potential for large starting salaries - £50k for first year is not that unusual... but most people start on £25-30k... I am not saying any degree will do this you have to go to a top tier uni, do a good course and get at least a upper second class honours...

    Re: Universitys

if your not going to enjoy your degree, there's little doing it.

best case, your fantastically clever, even thou you didn't enjoy it, you manage to get a 1st.
quite likely, you really f**k it up, even those on the course who are lower IQ than you enjoy what they're doing enough to put far more time in than you can. You get a 3rd.
most likely, you really begin to hate what your doing, become resentful of your coursemates, distanced from those in halls because your a mature student, you take to listening to My Chemical Romance, from there its only a short hop to self harm, excessive cannabis consumption, and dropping out. Leaving you financially worse off than you are now by quite a long shot, and with even the posistion of gardian financial editor beyound you reach. (sorry had to get a cheap shot in there somehow).

Glad you done well mate but I defo think its an exception to the rule. I would say starting salaries are more like 14-18k if you can get a decent job you were applying for.

lol, I'm not going to get as much as £50k (but some of my friends are)... The biggest graduate employers, afaik, are the big 4 (Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and E&Y), between them they hire a few thousand grads each year, and they pay about £30k...

    Re: Universitys

Well I'm not sure on all the figures of how many per year they hire but there are more than 300,000 grads chasing less than 90,000 jobs each year in the UK can't remember where i read that. Job coming up in our place had 60 applicants for 1 job @19k a year.
