Haha, funny that this thread should appear overnight.
I've just gotten out of a situation pretty similar to this.
I drank the best part of a bottle of gin in a few hours, and went to my gfs student halls at 5 am and told her I wanted to break up.
From what I can piece together of my boozed up mindset I think I was freaking out about having been together( about 20 months now, yeah I know, but I'm only 19) so long, and decided to end a relationship which until now has been pretty much as good as I could hope for.
This was last saturday night and it took me an entire week of non stop texting and phone calls to even get her to speak to me face to face. She came to my house last night, stayed over after hours of talking, and it looks like things are gonna be alright now.

So my advice to you is;
If you are really, really sure that you want to be with this girl ( not getting into 'the one' debate), then just don't give up. She'll come round eventually, and if she doesn't then it simply wasn't meant to be matey.

i think its based more around the spirit of the law rather than the letter now. sure there was a story on fark a while ago about something like that

It's relatively complicated now, and there's lots of different degrees. But its changed the law so there is a distinction between a 16 yr old and a 15 yr old sleeping together vs a 40 yr old and a 13 yr old.

Statutary rape is no longer the lingo used. It's still technically illegal btw, but the penalties are much less severe and some legal things say in some cases i.e. 16 yr old guy with 15 yr old girlfriend they should not pursue a prosecution.

i dont remember exactly when this was, its was in the last few years. you may have seen in the papers outrage that 16 year olds could no longer snog their 15 year old partners. took it out of context completely. rewrote the laws so that if an old man is kissing a young girl or woman kissing boy in a sexual manner they can be charged, whereas previously there had to be clear sexual contact.

the law should be there to support what is natural and what is right, rather than be a beaurocratic fist with which to hand out injust sentences. Unfortunately, they havent quite perfected it in the case of speed cameras...
