companies with multiple sites
Why do companies do this? seems completely pointless.
Go to the Glasgow section of the Xscape website, click on the "Snowslope" and what do you get? a completely different site opening in a new window.
That drives me nuts! completely pointless!
EDIT: grrr, all the seperate Xscape places have different domains for their own SNO!zone
SNO!zone Milton Keynes - SNO!zone Milton Keynes
SNO!zone Braehead - SNO!zone Scotland
SNO!zone Castleford - SNO!zone Castleford
why? oh why?
Re: companies with multiple sites
Simply put, it's far easier to deploy each website. I'd imagine the codebase is a fairly generic layout, and it's copied to multiple folders on the same webserver, then all you do is tweak a few variables (such as pictures, pricing info etc) and you're done.
When it comes time to change or upgrade the code, you change it once and copy out the changes to the various folders.

But why have separate sites to start with?
For a multi regional company, I can't really see any advantage and certainly not on the scale of these sites.

Well why not just have various folders then? Why force different domains to open in different windows?
Re: companies with multiple sites
... some etailers do the same thing.....
Re: companies with multiple sites
Which ones? So i'll know to avoid them on principal :)
Re: companies with multiple sites
Dabs have a dabs4home and a dabs4work site, afaik they are separate domains, but open in the same window.
