    The Grand National

    Is this weekend.

That's right, the single most biggest horse race of the year has come round again, meaning those of us unlucky enough to be in the bookmaking industry will have our hardest day's work since school exams.

The question is, are you a betting pro, putting on just another bet?
Or are you doing your one annual bet?
Or maybe you're putting it on for the first time?

(The poll is private, but feel free to post your answers too )

    Re: The Grand National

I put money on it every year and also try and get a sweep stake going

I never win though and usually my horse falls about 10 fences from the end even if its been winning to that point

    Re: The Grand National

When my brother and I were little we would watch the horse racing with my mum now and then. The criteria for picking horses was either best name or nicest looking colours. I write this from my £10 million mansion.
"Reality is what it is, not what you want it to be." Frank Zappa. ----------- "The invisible and the non-existent look very much alike." Huang Po.----------- "A drowsy line of wasted time bathes my open mind", - Ride.

I've never placed a bet on a sporting event. But, I'm now thinking; why not?

Someone point me in the right direction on where I can place a bet? Oh, and if you can tell me who will be winning the race, that'd be handy too.

The only time I've ever bet on a "sport" is when we went to the greyhound racing for a mate's stag night a few weeks ago. Most of us bet just £2 on each race

And of course, the guy picking the winners by ignoring the odds (and choosing the ones with the names he liked best) made the most money out of the entire group.

    Re: The Grand National

90% of my gambling is online poker, but I do sometimes bet on football, boxing or the nags.

Everyone has to bet on the Grand National, its the day set aside for people who don't normally bet to have a cheeky punt.

    Re: The Grand National

had my first bet only 2 weeks ago

Mate works in a bookies and nipped in to do a bet on the greyhounds.

He told me to pick 3 numbers from 1 to 6.

    Sarcasically I say 4-5-6 ... and he did a 1 quid bet.

Lo and behold - 2 out of the 3 came in and gave me a couple of quid back.

Well, betting shops are always a smart place to start

They'll have nice helpful staff too, if you go to the right ones
