So, how much electricity does Zak's office/PC, drain in a week?

    6pm: Sunday 27th May 2008.

I have attached the power meter to a multi plug, and will run all my PC stuff and work office equipment from it.

PC is a Quad 6700 Extremem with 4 gig and 2 or 3 hard drives accoring to use.
    22" Iiyama monitor
    Creative iTrigue speakers
Dell Dual Core Lappy with 2 gig
    Phone Charger
    Ikea Desk Lamp

OK....not scientific but these are the things plugged in. Everything will be left as I usuall leave it, OFF when not in use, but NOT unplugged or switch off at the wall.....it'll still have juice to draw if it wants it.

    Electricity costs are set
11.1 p per Kw Hour daytime (7am to midnight)
4.8p per Kw Hour night time (midnight to 7am)

I checked with the electricity company and when the clocks went to British Summer time the meter readings are altered to suit as they always give an hour lea way either way. Basically 7 hours of economy 7 rating is applied. So I'll make sure that my PC is doing the same stuff at the hours around it.

    Use as follows:

Folding a lot of the time, most nights.
Work on laptop AND PC daytime 2 days, evening every day.
Gaming every day pretty much, varying 1 hour to 3 hours, according to spare time. Game often left running (trading in Lineage 2)
    Mobile phone to be charged.
    Music several hours per day.

    So.....onward. The meter is ticking

    This will be interesting

It would also be interesting to see a week without folding too... to see how much of a difference it makes... (of course you need to turn your computer off at nights to keep it fair)

Re: So, how much electricity does Zak's office/PC, drain in a week?

PC is a Quad 6700 Extremem with 4 gig and 2 or 3 hard drives accoring to use.
I guess 220W idle and 310W full load (wouldn't really know without checking the spec)
    22" Iiyama monitor
Probably 50W (Note my Dell 2001FP's PSU is rated for 90W)
    Creative iTrigue speakers
    Less than 10W
Dell Dual Core Lappy with 2 gig
20W if you idle, and perhaps 50W at full load
    Phone Charger
It gonna take <10W, doesn't worth counting
    Ikea Desk Lamp
    9W

Which makes 350W or so with everything on.
One thing that you do use to save about 10W on your laptop is to undervolt it
That brought my laptop from 52W to 42W at full load.

PC goes off now as I am going out, but will returmn by afternoon and back to PC and laptop work.

    13.7kw/h != 13.7kwh

I assumed you meant 13.7kw per hour

    kw/h = kw h^-1
the / or power of -1 means per (physics), just like we have lets say a car travelling at 10m/s thats 10 metres per second etc..
    physics stuff.

Re: So, how much electricity does Zak's office/PC, drain in a week?

22 hours passed, and so far my PC and office hardware has cost me 40 pence to run.

That's more than I guessed to be fair. No wonder work likes me to "work" from home, and not in the office.
