    Televisionary doo dads

Amidst the redecorating of my living room, my mother has decided, with persuasion from me, that it is necessary to upgrade our smelly 28" Sony TV.

The problem herein is that I haven't got a clue when it comes to televisions and she has even less of an idea. All that I have been told is that I have a budget of £600 maximum.

Is it up to you to tell me which is the best make, what size TV I should be looking at for £600, what the little details in the spec I should be looking at (ie contrast and whatnot) and all the rest.

Also, LCD or plasma or what?

She wants a really thin one.

Looking between the 30" to 40" range - I'm not entirely sure how much £600 will buy.

Many thanks in advance etc etc.

Any good sites that sell TVs, too?

What will it be used to watch mainly? Also is your mum one of these people who will just pause a dvd and walk off for the next 30 minutes or that sort of thing.

Maybe this should be in the shopping section of the forum?

There's a shopping part of this forum? D:! I was havingtrouble deciding what section to put it in :x

I'll go and repost in the other part, then, and if anyone here wants to put in their 2 cents, it's for everyone to use, it will be used for normal TV, DVDs, games consoles etc. It'll probably have a lifespan of around 5+ years, assuming it doesn't die on us.

dont cross-post, just PM a mod to get it moved
As for what size of telly that should buy, I got my Toshiba 32" for £499, so a decent 32 or a 37 shouldn't be out of the question.

these days, £600 should buy you a 42" 1080p (full HD) LCD with built-in freeview from a decent brand

    Re: Televisionary doo dads

    That's a nice TV.

Alternatively, I stumbled across this one:

Amazon.co.uk: Used and New: Toshiba 37XV503DB - 37" Widescreen 1080p Full HD LCD TV With Freeview

    Anything wrong with that?
