That's rubbish tbh, long before torrents, P2P software and high bandwidth internet connections, the price of CDs and games was just as high as it is today (if not higher, thanks now to sites like Play.com). Back in 1992 Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Megadrive cost £30-£40, just like GTA4 does now.
at the same time if you make a decent game dont you deserve the cash for creating the game?
same for software.
the fact that sonic the hedge 2 for mega drive is one of the best games ever created it was definatly worth the cash!
i dont agree with the current prices of Microsoft office so i use openoffice. im a student so i could get microsoft office for £50 but i decided to use openoffice for now.

Of course, I'm not having a go at prices today (as I already said, they're probably cheaper than they were 15 years ago which is amazing considering how much more technology and work goes into things). Hell I loved Sonic 2!
I'm merely pointing out that "Piracy jacks up the prices for everyone" isn't a valid arguement.
But the end result is the same, i'll have it on my hard drive either way and without paying any money.
So why if i've missed the chance to record a TV show would i not download it? Especially if i record 7 shows from an 8 show series, you expect to go without or pay £24.99 for the DVD boxset?
With regards to the costs of media they have always been extreamly high, and you just need to look at film stars/music stars and presidents of these big companys like MS and EMI to realise the wages these people get arn't just high, they are obsene.
And they expect people to pay massivly over the top for thier products, so they can buy thier 7th car.
As i said before if everything was reasonably priced there wouldn't be a problem.
It's all down to not getting a fair deal.
Just think if you pay to watch a film at the cinema, then paid for it on video, then again with the changes of format to DVD and mabee now blueray, you could end up paying £50 for a 2 hour film you can't do that for every film you want to own. (i can't anyway, i'm poor)
As long as you've got a TV license to watch those programs then it'd be okay in my opinion. If I miss the Apprentice, I got it on iPlayer, but if I miss that too I'll go download it as I don't really think I can view it again until they show it. Plus I prefer watching TV on my pc anyway, when I like.
I totally agree. I much prefer to own something physical rather than a lower-quality MP3. It shows support for the artists you like and you get to enjoy the original sound in high quality. And there really is a difference between a 128-kbps MP3 and the original CD quality. Don't believe me, try it with one of your own CD's - compare the ripped and original versions. Not the same at all.
Also what gives people the right to think they can download artist's music for free - after all they have put hard work into writing their 'art' - it's a rare talent to be able to write a song, and they should be rightly rewarded for their skills, not ripped off by cheap bastards who think they have a right to get everything for free.
loo not many artists can right there songs especialy in the pop and rnb genra
How come it's perfectly ok for them to rip us off by charging massivly over the top prices for cds but not ok for us to rip them off.
Radiohaed and charletons had it right, with radiohead you paid to DL the album what you thought it was worth (average was around £4 i belive) and with the charletons i think i'm right in thinking the next one will be up for legal download for nothing. Yet most still want £12.99 ?
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
? That is a really odd arguement.
If you think someone is charging over the top prices then you're very free not to get that product. If it's obviously not value for money then no-one will buy it and they'll have to produce something that is worth the money next time or lower prices. If you pirate something you're saying that actually you DO think the product is worth your time to play, but you're too lazy to pay for it. Vote with your feet and just ignore products you don't think are worth the money.
