Re: The best chips ever debate

Crazy as it sounds, I like McDonald's chips, they've got the right balance of salty and crunchy. Of course, not technically sure if they count as chips or packaging material....

I find far far too many chipshops don't properly drain their chips after cooking, leaving you with a soggy, fatty mess.

Oven chip wise, I agree McCain's Southern Fries make for a good chip

Re: The best chips ever debate

Proper british sea-side style chips... all completely irregular shapes all stuck together! little wooden forks... Light drizzle blowing in at you from the sea seagulls trying to steal them adds to the image (anyone relate).

    *out*

If not the above... Langleys fish&chips in Chippenham, I am yet to taste better in my locality. Although after I've had a few I do like to hit the Mr Ds Van in Bath opposite GAP, its always there without fail friday or saturday.

    *at home*
rarely eat them, but when I do homemade for sure.

Re: The best chips ever debate

No contest, Chippie Chips are THE best. However it really depends on who makes them. Sometimes you can have a regular 'fryier' and they are good once, then not so good. The variation is really surprising. However I like my chips FRESHLY made, nice and hot with salt and vinegar.

    Ok, how about roast potatato's?

I mean given a choice between oven chip, or a roast potatato's its not contest!

Goose fat ftw, and as heston says, put the spud pealings in a hessian bagi n the water when boiling them, it does seam to help with the flavour.

    Another vote for homemade here.

Though a post pub donner on chips from our local kebab house goes down very well.... Doh, I've just made myself all hungry!

chippy chips that have just been cooked are rank, they need leaving in there for a good while.
Home made for the win roosters spuds cut really thin like fries doused in salt and vinegar.
Dont eat oven chips much i used to hate beefeater oven chips tho they never cooked right and they looked and tasted awful.

    Permanently confused
