    The best chips ever debate

    What are your favourite chips...ever?

Are they homemade with a particular potato?

Are they a brand name, such as Mcain Oven Chips

Do they have to be crinkled cut or baked in the oven rather than fried?

Maybe you buy your favourite chips from a local chippie or favour Mcdonald's chips?

I've got a few different answers but feel free to answer just one.

I like my homemade chips, cut in the shape of scallops, fried and made with a Maris Piper potato...yum

Branded chips I like Mcain's Southern Fried, done in the oven.

Favourite chip shop: Middletons in Walsall, golden chips with batter bits always reminds me of skiving school all those years ago.

Can't bear crinkled-cut chips or any Supermarket home brand.

Re: The best chips ever debate

Thats actually a really complex question to answer, because you can't beat the chippy in goxhill for chips... (it's worth a 2hours roundtrip ) but then again homemade still factors into the equation....
    Hmmmmmm.....

edit: oooh and Mcain's Southern Fried come into it as well. such a hard choice
eeny meeny miiiny mo..... would have to be southern fried if im honest, i havnt had they in years but i was thinking about them earlier :S

Re: The best chips ever debate

Microwave/Oven chip just don't taste as good in my experience (find them too soft). Outdoor (whether it is in an outdoor chain or take-away), it seems to vary a lot. Every now and then I think that a particular place make great chips, yet the next time they can mess it up (don't cook long enough and it still tastes like raw potato inside, or too much and it's too hard). One thing I never quite understood though, is the appeal of adding vinegar to chips.

Nope i'm with you there. I like the occasional bag of chips from the chip shop but generally get bored of them quite quickly.

I'll also have them with a steak, your generic pub chips which are nice, but I think that's because they are just so easy to eat in large numbers lol

Now sweet potato chips.. thats something I can get on board with

I didn't eat them for 6 years when I was younger, just not that great a fan

(coupled to which I think I may have a mild potato intolerance - so about to stay off the devil food to see)

I'd rather have a salad anyday

I know the feeling...I dont like pizza...

Best chippy I know of is Sim's Chippy in Stratton, Swindon. Huge portions of really filling chips.

Same here... Just salt or nothing on them is fine for me.
