So they have upped the Road Tax again us motorists pay. Having cycled into work again I now know that I need a full suspension mountain bike. Not because I do a lot of off roading, but because of the rubbish state of some of the roads I cycle down to get to work!
If you wonder what the fuss is, go on, get on your bike and have a ride around. You think potholes are bad in cars, try them in a bike. yeah you could swerve to miss them, but get smashed into by some car trying to avoid it!
All the roads near my house were recently regraveled (is this the correct term?) meaning that all the road markings were covered up, the drainholes similarly and the difference isn't really all that noticeable in terms of plotholes.
They haven't heard of long term planning I don't think.... bit like when they removed all the railways and now - lots of years on - they now want us all to use rail travel.
Could also be compared to the old usage of canals.. and the current usage now.

Heh, the same is happening here.
Overnight they will coat the road with tar and then spray chippings on top - leave for a few hundred motorists to pass over, then flatten, collect excess chippings and paint lines.

Our local speed limit recently dropped from 40 to 15 due to this resurfacing. We still get people travelling at 60mph+ though.
