Pretty awesome - I order from scan a lot, I probably could've saved about £50-70 over the last year or so if I'd have known about this before.
Maybe Scan should make it 20 posts and registered for at least 1 month for this, may stop the spamming...
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?
Or what about manual verification - once a user hits the post requirement, a mod or established member(s) checks to see if the posts are useful or just spam?
Surely it's better to have a regular influx of new members enticed in by the free shipping stuff than to have just the regulars rewarded with free shipping. That way you'll get new content generated regularly and so long as the mods stay on top of pointless spam then the forum is improving. I don't think I would have joined if it had said you need to be active for a month before you qualify for a discount.
I think we should work with HEXUS to obtain a list of the top 10 worst offenders and remove their free carriage.

So basically if you had to make the Effort of being an active member for a month to get free discount You wouldn't have bothered. So you'll post up to 20ish posts get your free delivery from scan then leave.
So how exactly would that make someone like you more valuable member than some of the people here that post 10 posts a day of not spam and have done so for 3-4 years in some case.
If scan introduced a 1 month minimum membership and 20 posts i think that the people that just come on to spam 20 then Leave would drop drastically.
I agree, I mean it wouldn't stop people joining to say thanks or post some advice or just join in a thread as lots do - this isn't the Scan free shipping forum after all, it's a computing forum with a large base of very knowledgeable members which is what originally attracted me. Hardly a day passes where you get post like: 'nice post', 'me too', 'I agree', 'lol', 'haha', etc - I'm sure that would massively improve if there was a new system implemented, the delay or my post review idea for example.
Of course, you would still getting spammers posting a few posts so they can post links but how would you stop that, if people can post unmoderated then you'll get spam links either way, whether they're clickable or not. But I think the number of post boosters far higher than the number of spammers (or at least more noticeable), plus their post count is higher.
I mean I'm happy as it is, some of the boost posts are amusing and I don't have a problem reporting them but if the mods want to make it easier for themselves...
No I wouldn't have joined if it took a month to get free delivery, I'm not sure many people would plan an order a month in advance, just because that is my reason for joining shouldn't prejudice people against me though. I joined in on a thread with something honest, yes I didn't read all 11 pages of posts previous to mine but I followed on from something someone said which is generally how threads and forums work. I don't build a PC regularly and rarely make any changes to one I've built so my orders are sporadic. With my order being over £700 I looked for ways to save a little money such as any free delivery options with Scan and found the one for joining in with this forum.
As for getting to 20 posts or so and leaving, I'm not surprised that people don't stick around as some of the posts here towards new members have been quite hostile when they were simply trying to join in. Perhaps a friendlier and more open approach would result in a higher retention rate of new members.
I never said I was a more valuable member. If a pub only has regulars and no new customers, eventually there will be no pub as all the regulars will die off from various drinking related illnesses. If that pub has passing custom then it's lifespan will be prolonged, yes some of the new customers may be rubbish and loud, some may never come back but some will become regulars if they enjoy the atmosphere. Hopefully my analogy makes sense.
Scan actually has quite a low threshold for free postage. Over on OcUK you need a minimum of 250 posts over 90 days or 100 posts over 12 months. Aria requires that you make at least 50 posts as a minimum initially and contribute at least 50 posts a month to maintain free postage.

Constructive means actively joining in with the conversations & becoming part of the community. rather than posting 20 nondescript one-liners of monosylabic answers to random threads.
It also means not posting 20 replies & never being seen again.
So really what I'm trying to say is, as a kick-back of becomming active in the community, helping, advising, or indeed seeking advice, Scan give you free shipping.
