    Vacuum cleaners, physiologically noisy.

And I don't mean it's all in your mind

In the Sat ToryGraph there was a small article on how to vacuum properly, written in conjunction with a bod from Hoover.

He brought up the subject of noise, and pointed out that research has shown that people associate noise with power, and a quieter vacuum cleaner is often perceived as weedy, and offers poor performance.

Now this is something I didn't release, embarrassingly so as I spent a few years in the industry. A few years back I was talking about this to another industry bod, and we both wondered why there was no sound deadening in the motor housings (heat is a prob here I admit) and why the exhausts are (aside from the filters) open. A bigger motor housing with some deadening and a silencer on the exhaust would work wonders.

We came to the conclusion that this would lead to a sorry state of affairs with boy racers fitting race cans

Boring thread I know, but it interested sad little old me.

    i found that interesting too

the noise is annoying on vacuum cleaners tbh, perhaps if they marketed a vacuum cleaner as "the quietest vacuum cleaner on the planet - yet more powerful than the leading brand" then maybe people would go for it...
