Facebook - the new ebay, loot, freecycle...

Facebook is great if you want to sell something that you don't want to post...

A number of times I've been able to sell stuff to people I know just by updating my status!

It's completely free, and stops ebay/paypal from getting any commission, and is suprisingly effective

So far I've sold / got rid of a Dell PC, some CDs, a sofa (or two), and just today sold an old laptop

Ive never actually thought about using facebook! It would be useful in shifting stuff that I really cba to post or is just too impractical to take down the post office!

I believe all 'social networking' sites such as that (bebo, myspace etc.) are TBH.

That's why I block them all in my HOSTS file so I don't "accidentally" click on a link and end up there

Whoa where did that hate come from? Myspace and bebo are a bit scummy for strict social networking indeed but Facebook, Digg, Twitter, Flickr etc are the social sites of the future... if you have mucho friends like moi then you will find Facebook to be SUCH a blessing that you didn't know how people in the old days managed without it. But I guess it's usefulness is put to the test since I'm at Uni

I'm happy enough with regular forums (such as Hexus etc.).

Cool beans, I'm not a bishop of social sites trying to convert the non-believers or anything, I'm just thinking there's probably more to them than you don't know about.... but they seem to be better for the youth really, my dad is on my facebook but he hardly has any activity on it - he just likes to know if I'm having fun at Uni etc.

Fair enough, I suppose another part of it is the negative publicity that I've heard of too, such as the amount of spam that basically seems to be sent out to all by "friends".

So as I say, it's not for me - I do appreciate that others find it perfectly adequate for themselves though.

I used to be on myspace and I think I have a facebook account *goes to check*, indeed I do. That said I find it a bit annoying.. if the friends are worth keeping, i'll just call them lol

Great idea to use it in order to side step ebay though, I may try it
