Attack of the killer bees! Ahhhh...

I had the fright of my life this evening. I'm having a new boiler and radiators fitted so I was clearing out the cupboard under the stairs so the workers can get to the pipework.

It's quite a big cupboard that goes quite a way back. I cleared everything out apart from some deckchairs and tins of paint and some tubing, which was from an old tumbledryer, which is no longer in there.

I moved a tin of paint and all of a sudden there was a really load buzzing noise. I've never ran so fast in my life. I went to the outside of the house to discover that there are bees living in there, so they must be all in the tube in my house.

I know they dissapear in Autumn, but they need to be gone otherwise I'm sure the workers can't around them.

I understand council won't do anything as they class bees as harmless. I don't really want to be stung for getting a private contractor out, but I presume that would be my only option.

Anyone ever have a similar problem? Will they kill me if I try and move them

Im sure there must be a way to get them out from a distance, like smoking them out or ive seen some sprays which you spray it over the hive from a few feet away.

BTW - was the stung pun intended?? lol

I've known concils to clear out wasps before.... funny how they won't bees.

Depending how brave you are, you could always have a go yourself.

    burn them.... no freeze them.

Ring your local beekeepers association. Bees are in short supply at the moment and a free set is quite a nice haul.

Bees are protected, as stated find a local bee keeper and let him know.

Is this where all the bees have been disappearing too? Stevens house?!

Phoned the council, they won't come. Equal opportunities for bees no doubt.

Got a private contractor on the way. £120. He'll kill them no problem at all, but I did ask him if he can get rid of them without doing that I'd prefer it.

Exciting, the bee man should be round in the next couple of hours!

i wish I would have seen your suggestions about beekeepers before I rang this guy.

you could try and phone a beekeeper and see if they will do it for free, then cancel the other chap if so

What was the point of asking about it on the forums if you're not actually going to read the replies before acting?

Sorry, don't mean to sound uppity, but the Bee situation is quite serious at the moment. Finding someone who'll go around the councils protection isn't a responsible solution imho.

Please don't kill them - they are in serious decline at the moment. The bee keeper suggestion was spot on, a much better solution. Can you not cancel the contractor guy?
