    Smoking

    Who here smokes? & why

Like everyone I tryed smoking at school about 10 years ago but recently with my new job working with 5 people that smoke I was seduced by the nice passive smell of burning tobbaco

    So I tryed it again.

Now roughtly 54 (free) cigarettes later I have found they do almost nothing for me. Not addicted in any way either
One feels dirty. not nice. NOTHING like that nice passive smell that made me want to try...
One smoked fast, or two in a row gives a nice but very brief rush.. 5 mins at most.. not worth it. 3 or more has a delayed effect of making me feel like im going to be sick.

However I have been suffering with hayfever for a while that can be very annoying. However smoking one almost compleatly cures it for over a day.. at the expense of a much less annoying and rare slight cougth, which is nice to know...

    Re: Smoking

You will be addicted after 54 cigs.

Just wait for the withdrawals, it's horrible

    Cancer

    Diabetes

    High blood pressure

    Stinky breath

    Stinky clothes

    Death

    Spontaneous human combustion

All of these could be yours, for just £6 per day.

    Re: Smoking

I smoke..... started in school for 2 yrs then quit one day, wasn't hard or painful

took it back up a few yrs back, reason why I'm still smoking? relieves my stress..... before someone starts lecturing me, i know the risks associated with it. I'm a medic..... Some of you may think I'm dumb since the risks have been widely advertised and doctors are the ones encouraging people to stop , but there are much bigger problems facing everyone right now. drinking is a very big issue, yet people are more willing to ignore it when it comes to risks. in fact alcohol causes more harm in more ways than one, as proven by a study done (won't go into the details, too much info to go through). also obesity is a huge issue.....

must say now that if i were to quit it would be a lot harder than when i was 16. not really addicted to the 'high' that i get, because it doesn't affect me now no matter how many i smoke in a row. it's the action that i've become used to. eating sweets or chewing gum isn't a nice replacement, i'll either get diabetes from the first choice or have constant diarrhoea from the second.

on the plus side, i do get have a lot less chance of getting parkinson's disease later on in life. along with the fact that if i smoke for around 10yrs in total then my risks of getting cancer aren't going to be much higher than the average non-smoker. it's a win win situation, apart from stiinking fags and the costs.....

I smoke, but plan to quit, managed to cut down a fair whack from 10-20 a day to about 3 so next step is 0 and the odd one.

Never tried a cigarette and never plan to

I'd most likely get addicted. My Dad's Dad was, my Dad was, my brother is and my sister is. The addiction seems to run in the family so I'm staying away.

Pretty sure no smoker gets smoke from their cigarette in their eyes EVER it doesn't happen, unless you are using both hands and are smoking without using your hand, which is rare unless your fly fishing of course

I do, opposite side of the face to which ever hand I'm using. Not really because of the smoke getting in my face but because it seems more comfortable for hand/arm

@ Ben_ not sure if its happened to you're friends, but when 2 of my friends started off smoking they weren't smoking correctly. so most of the smoke wasn't actually going in, the cigarette was just burning instead and they complained that the smoke was getting in their eyes..... one eventually got it right, the other one after wasting probably half a pack decided he couldn't 'learn'. a complete genius when it comes to maths, but can't learn how to smoke. it's as easy as drinking through a straw!

    Annoys me!!!

    Re: Smoking

In this day and age you do not have to be remotely close to a smoker in any environment, its banned in basically any closed premises, and in public you can always walk off.

Unless you choose to stand with a group of smokers of course..
