I used to have a Casio which changed channels on TV's and videos and was programmable

Now I don't wear a watch at all as I can see what time it is on my phone and the 1000's of clocks you see when out and about.

Seiko Titanium something or other Chronograph.

Was a fair few quid and they don't make it any more, but it is a brilliant watch for everyday use.

    Re: Watch check..

I'm really tempted by the like of the Omega Speedmaster (not the more common Seamaster) but I have reasonably small wrists, so my other choices such as the Tag Carrera TwinTime would dwarf my wrists.

Still, nowt wrong with this one. Oh, and every time I try a Steel watch after this Titanium one I'm very aware of its presence, as it feels like it weighs a ton in comparison. AFAIK, Breitling are one of the few who do Titanium watches in sensible prices, so I may have to look at those.

    Re: Watch check..

Have you seen them in the flesh?

I went to get my seamaster today, ( they are about as common as each other tbh) and the 42mm felt small, so I plumped for the 45mm.

I would think that any male could get away with the smaller one fairly easy??

Good things with Omega imo, and others is that they are a good value watch , and have the build of a more expensive watch. I don't rate tags that highly tbh.

Breitling are ok, but for the money I would rather get into a omega or rolex..

    Re: Watch check..

Sorry Ben, I mean the Speedmaster was likely my choice because the others in a similar range (price wise) from the likes of Tag were too big for my wrist.

I've tried the Speedmaster, not the Seamaster, though I did look at it in the shop. I dunno why, but the Speedmaster appealed more than the Seamaster, and as far as I was aware the Seamaster was the more popular, ergo, more common. It was not meant in a pejorative sense, as they are both fantastic watches.

The only experience I've got of Tags is my fathers, and whilst it is nice, I'd want something slightly different, hence the Carrera looked like a good choice, but sadly is too big for my wrist.

Rolex was one brand I hadn't actually considered, as the only Rolex I've seen in the flesh is my Mums, and I don't think it would suit me

    Re: Watch check..

I was contemplating buying one of those Planet Ocean models, with the steel bracelet, but I had a funny feeling that in a year or two I'd wonder why I bought an orange watch, so I gave it a miss.

I like the 300 M stuff, but I think if I was going to buy a watch like that I'd rather have something a bit different. I'm off to Jersey soon, and it's a great place to buy watches, so I shall see what goodies they have there.

I've got a few reasonably nice watches that I got for buttons from one of our golf suppliers, and they do a good enough job just now. They're probably utter crap, but they look nice enough, and tell the time, so no real urge to replace them. I always forget to take my watch off when I'm hitting golf balls on the range, so I go through a few!

Thats fair enough, I only bought mine as I loved the look, and it fitted my arm. And I have other ones that have different looks..

Depending on your budget, a great condition rolex sub non date can be had for between 1500-2000 a bullet proof watch if ever I saw one

Yeah, they do look awesome, no doubt about that. They're pretty much my favourite watch on the market at the mo. But I'm quite fickle So despite thinking I want something a bit different, I'd probably be safer buying a 300 M chrono in navy, or something equally safe!

That's kinda why I've stuck to cheap-ish watches up 'til now, as it's not too costly when I get bored of them! But I may not be able to resist the urge in Jersey, 10-15% off the prices I'm used to is a big temptation. The missus got a nice watch (albeit a "fashion" one, Gucci ) last time we were there, at about 20% less than Glasgow prices.

    Re: Watch check..

The thing with watches is that half the time you really don't need them, more accurately syncronised clocks on PCs/Phones etc.

The other is that even a cheapo £10 watch still uses a quartz crystal to provide the clock frequency. This means the more expensive watches often to show off use mechnical mechanisims which are actually less acurate!

But, that said, watches are a great thing because not only are they art, but also great thou often needlessly convoluted (in a good way)
