    house extensions costs ?

bit of a random one for the hexus forums, but if people can ask how to gain weight i may as well ask this.

were buying a new house (well 1930's one) and its in desperate need of a kitchen extension, are there any online sites that can give rought prices of the bricks and mortor costs for someone to build the extension for us, and hidden costs like planning permission and ground work ?

costing my boss £18k to bring out his one story extension to a two story. When you think about it, thats really not bad value at all.

I'd be tempted if doing any extension to consider adding an extra room, as that would really more than pay for itself, considering the extra cost compared to just a 1 story extension, if you can afford it would be a great way to help ensure good value for your house.

    Re: house extensions costs ?

yeh the kitchen will be extended to take into account the outside loo and pantry, so it would take up almost 1 side of the house, i did read the 1k per square foot, so time to go measure up !

    Re: house extensions costs ?

Obvious advice follows .... bear in mind :-

    1) Cheapest quote isn't necessarily best bet. Good, reliable builders are worth a premium.

    2) Given current times, and lack of people spending money, a lot of builders may be coming up a bit short of work.

    3) Given current times, a lot of people that might have moved house may choose to extend instead. It's usually cheaper and often better value. So builders may be busy.

Sorry if that didn't help much.
