(Maths) Students today are taught different things than in the 1950’s. Therefore they were bound to fail the 1950’s exam because they hadn’t been taught the things it. Plus I doubt the TV program was a particularly scientific test?
I don’t believe that calculators make it “easier” in the sense that it means that more complicated questions are asked.
As for coursework, it’s a different way of testing people, which I think more realistically measures how people work in the real world. (I tend to do better in exams than coursework, guess because I leave things till the last minute).
