Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Been contemplating for a while now.. But I've made the change and I'm well impressed with firefox and its add-ons! Have a very easy to use screenshot and page capture add-on, FLV downloader in like 1 click, and image zoom. Beats IE7 hands down..alot faster too in loading, aswell as tabbed browsing.

Anyone with IE.. Change!.. You wont regret it

I find the page located at about:mozilla (type it in firefox) very wierd though! Kind of satanic!

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

I have just dumped firefox 3 and went back ti IE7 and installed IE7Pro addon for IE7 which basically adds everything you need from firefox back into IE7. With FF3 I got constant page reloads, blank screens, it would lose its address and search bars all the time and you would have to reset the tool bars to their defaults over and over again. Addon's would crash. I am gonna stick with IE7 with the IE7Pro addon and Opera for now until FF is sorted and fixed.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

I still use IE7 paired with IE7Pro. I like only needing one plugin for my browser rather than many. Also, FF3 tends to be the slowest of my three browsers (the third being Opera 9.5, which I really like a lot), and is prone to crashing.

I just don't like Firefox, never have, and unless they make some massive improvements, I likely never will. In my opinion, the best non-IE browser is Opera.

I was suffering problems with opera! Crashing being one of them and the other being the quite reported, opera mail "engine intialisation failed" error. Backup your bookmarks, uninstall opera and delete whats left in the program directory, and then you can perform a fresh install. You should then be fine, I haven't had any problems since. , but a complete fresh install sorted that to.

I wasnt aware of IE7Pro may as well download it for the hell of it

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Would love to be able to use FF, but it would sometimes crash when loading a big page, and every month of so all my bookmarks would vanish, and none of the online methods for getting them back would work.

So had to kick its arse out the door and get IE7. It works.

For those using IE7 Pro, how are you finding it? I remember giving it a trial run a long time ago, but found it slowed down my overal experience and had a few quirks.

Just checked the website and there's been a few new releases, with the last version having launched end of May. Think I might have to give it another whirl.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

I too like IE7 more than Firefox 3. Firefox 3 seemed to lack many of the features I used in IE, like running an exe file for example. Firefox also tended to crash more often and use more RAM than IE.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

FF3 is brill. Use in conjunction with Adblock (allow Hexus of course!) and Foxmarks you won't go wrong. Never had any problems with it.

Running an exe, you download it somewhere then you can double click it in the downloads box when its done. Of course others might prefer to run exe files, which could potentially be unsafe IMO.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

I've used firefox for years but firefox 3 is wholeheartedly underwhelming(although I realise most changes are to security ect, so not visible to the user). Plus there's the addition of the truly awful awesomebar (although I know a lot of people like it).

Unless there's an option to turn that off (I know there's work around to make it seem like the ff2 bar, but it still keeps tracking data) I'll be looking for a new browser once support for ff2 stops later this year.

Might give safari a try, I've used IE7 and Opera and didn't like either.

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Hmm, I switched to Firefox quite a long time ago and not used IE unless it was an IE only supported website. To be honest, I've had no issues with FF nor with IE but (before IE updated to 7) I found the web browsing experience much nicer with Firefox. I haven't tried IE7 nor IE7pro yet. I been meaning to try Opera

I do recommend Firefox to my friends but in reality, people stick with what they know and that is IE

Re: Changed from IE7 to FireFox 3

Ive tried most of them over the years, Safari on the macbook Pro, tried Opera for a bit, but a few websites I use dont support it, mainly Natwest :angst

Now got Firefox on both desktop and laptop, although im still running 2, I havent been overally impressed with 3 yet, and until it pops up telling me to jump ship then im staying put!

I love the speed dial addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4810) it's now my home page (tab) and it's much easier than having several tabs on start up. It's a rip from Opera which IE7 copied.

I wouldn't say that in some cases. I have been on Firefox since the early beta's and with the release of FF3 it's just tipped me over the edge and I dumped it. The problems I've had with FF3 so far which never arose in FF2 were:

    • The awesome bar is anything but awesome, more of an annoyance
    • You would get blank non populated menu's
    • Would randomly delete your favourites
    • Would constantly crash at the sight of Flash or Java pages
    • Address and search bars would vanish completely meaning you had to revert FF back to default settings which in turn borked half the addon's
    • Loading blank pages or reloading the page numerous times
    • Download manager would forget or delete downloads midway through without reason or warning, Opera and IE7 had no issues with the same download.
    • Would constantly forget proxy settings and revert back to having no proxy settings at all

There are loads more I have come across but I cba to list the lot, these are just some of the issue's with it since day one. I will wait till FireFox 3 is sorted or at least the bugs are ironed out, for now I need a browser that works.
